TWILIGHT OF HIS CAREER
By Rob Staggenborg

GENRE: Sports
LOGLINE:

A hockey enforcer’s world is shattered by a woke media mob after an on-ice incident sends a star player out for the season. Cancel culture comes out in full force against our goon, but he’s got bigger things on his mind; namely early symptoms of brain damage (CTE) from years of being a punchline.

SYNOPSIS:

Frustrated hockey enforcer Toby Fyre’s world is shaken by the woke media mob after a questionable hit knocks a popular star out for the season. The cancel culture comes out in force against Fyre, but he’s got bigger things on his mind - namely early symptoms of CTE - the same disease that contributed to the sudden suicide of another legendary enforcer. And, to make matters worse, he’s about to get traded to a terrible, career-ending team.

This sounds like a really great story, Rob! Incredibly relevant in regard to the woke-mob/ doxing ecosphere which has been plaguing sports and politics, as well as the ignorance of the fans in understanding the severity of head injuries. Personally, I think your logline can use a bit of streamlining. Maybe trim some of the fat. (A hockey enforcer, suffering from early symptoms of brain damage, is placated by the woke media after a star player is severely injured (during an on-ice scuffle of his making? at the hands of his retaliation?) Excellent work!

thank you so very much. I am tweaking the logline every day. You have extracted EXACTLY the theme I was trying to put out there in this script. I went "behind the scenes" a bit as a hockey blogger for a full year and saw firsthand the viciousness these players deal with from the media, the fans, the opponents, inside their own organizations, etc. Stay tuned. I have gotten really nice feedback on the concept so far so I am motivated and energized by your comments back!

You're welcome. You have experience in the writing field (Stars and Stripes, St. Louis Business Journal), so I have faith you'll put together something stellar. Will do. Keep on keeping on!
