SYNOPSIS:

A one-time Rookie of the Year reluctantly takes his talents to Mexico's Winter League when he finds no offers on the table for a new contract. While in Mexico, infielder Eric has to prove his worth or face early retirement. He arrives with a massive ego and views the decrepit stadiums and long bus rides as cruel punishment for a star of his stature. While 'pelota' aficionados applaud Eric's presence, community leader and educator Alisa is turned off by his cocky ways. In addition, one of Eric's new teammates and the team manager are turned off by this 'pocho's' selfish attitude. As the season progresses, the pampered one-time star is humbled by the game and culture when he suffers a serious injury. Eric comes back in time to prove the doubters wrong with his newfound leadership and passion for the game as the team competes for the league title. At the same time, Eric opens up his heart to earn the respect of Alisa and her stern mother, who holds a secret that she has long kept from her only child. With Eric's compassion, Alisa learns to accept a painful truth that brings mother and daughter closer together. In the end, Eric rediscovers his love for the game and wins over the love of his life.
