RUBBISH - A TOXIC ENVIRONMENT DISASTER

RUBBISH - A TOXIC ENVIRONMENT DISASTER
By Simon Iliopoulos

GENRE: Animation
LOGLINE:

As global waste spirals out of control and governments turn a blind eye, a ragtag team of six misfits come together and embark on a wild mission to save the planet, raising awareness, dodging destruction, and proving that even rubbish can be heroes before they’re buried for good.

SYNOPSIS:

In a world buried under its own waste, six discarded items a half-full coffee cup, a garlic-scented straw, a queasy tissue, a sticky wrapper, an overweight soda can, and a self-conscious plastic bottle are left to rot in a forgotten landfill. But when the dump is set for destruction, threatening to erase them completely, the unlikely group is forced out of the bin and into the human world for the first time. Out of place and barely holding themselves together, they must rely on each other to survive a journey they were never meant to take. Along the way, they begin to realise they’re not as useless as they’ve been made to feel and that even the smallest change can have a ripple effect.

Rubbish is a heartfelt animated adventure about second chances, unexpected friendship, and finding value in what the world throws away.

I like the concept. You could campaign for laws against ocean trash dumping w the or in the film. It’s simple displacement of water, partially causing the ocean rise. What’s the number of truckloads of trash each day going in?? There should also be automated entrances to landfills created, where it takes a full bag of trash and splits it up to where each part goes. It’s alot easier to just animate explain what needs to happen as well. That would make more get recycled, and things done. Things not at all recycle able , by law not made. There is alot of cancerous things like tires and butadiene rubber products out there. As well as a media black out for butadiene rubber since 2007. Baby bottle tops.. pacifiers.. panty hose.. mouth guards. Shoes. Guess what most are made of? There is questions to ask too.. like how did styrophome make it back into fast food throw away products? There could be a direction you ask the kids and adults watching this, to steer this?

Simon Iliopoulos Simon, this is a fun, energetic concept with clear family-friendly appeal and a strong environmental message. The idea of turning “rubbish” into unlikely heroes has a lot of charm and fits well within the animation space, especially for younger audiences.

The logline has a lively tone, but it feels slightly overcrowded with ideas and phrases (“raising awareness,” “dodging destruction,” “saving the planet”), which makes it read more like a pitch than a sharp hook. Streamlining it and focusing on one clear central conflict would improve its impact.

The “ragtag team of misfits” element is appealing, though somewhat familiar adding a hint of what makes these characters unique could help differentiate it.

Overall, a commercially viable and positive concept with good animation potential that could stand out more with a tighter and more focused logline.
