In 1984, high school is lame. Jimmy is paired with the new girl, Alex. He’s into synth-pop; she’s strictly punk rock, totally bogus. This year’s Battle of the Bands is going to be harsh.
SYNOPSIS:
Jimmy’s 80’s suburban life is all about starting sophomore year and getting his band, Dreaming of Me, ready for the annual Battle of the Bands. All of this derailed by his parents constant fighting and his assigned Tiger Buddy, new girl, Alex.
Alex is a punk rock girl who’s in all his classes and lives across the street. She rides a motorcycle and disrupts his synth-pop rehearsals with ear splitting Clash covers. As if!
As Jimmy struggles to deal with his parent’s impending separation and all the other nightmares of suburbia, he finds a surprising sympathetic ear in Alex. She’s been through it. She’s still dealing with it every day.
Eventually they strike a chord musically. They find some common ground and Alex joins the band. Not all of Jimmy’s friends are on board. Is Alex the next Yoko or will her abundant talent push Dreaming of Me to top of the podium?
Of course, as Jimmy and Alex bond over divorce, music, and greasy spoon restaurants, love blossoms. Obviously, it’s The Sure Thing, because they can always Say Anything… to each other.
