Once Lopez leaves the office, the IA officer immediately brings the meeting to the attention of Allen. At a different California State Prison: Guards place cash bets on Banks against other inmates in an arranged battle. The next night, the Lopez’s are entertained at the Donning’s house. Donning tells Lopez that inmates are the scum of the earth. Lopez is not easy to persuade, believes that people can change and he works in the prison to make an effort to help those who will rehabilitate. At that same moment, Lopez's car and house were equipped with microphone receivers. Once the Lopez's get home, Lopez asks his wife to take their son to her parents house, out-of-state. Lopez plans to take a stand and report the illegal activities that transpire at the prison to outside authorities. Donning listens in on the conversation of the couple. The yard turns into a gladiator zone with guards as the audience via institutional camera/TV. Banks puts up a good fight, though, he is defenseless against his two opponents knives--they stab him, then a guard SHOOTS Banks with a fatal rifle shot. Guards cheer and cash in on their bets. At the prison, Lopez is at his desk and receives an order to report to Donning's office. Lopez reaches Donning’s office. Donning SLAMS Lopez against the office wall, then shows him an iPhone video of his bonded family. Donning tells Lopez, “If you love your family, keep your mouth shut or all three of you will come up missing.” Lopez explodes with anger, and then storms out of the office with Donning’s iPhone in hand. A stream of tears roll from Lopez’s eyes as he speeds down the highway. He reaches a local police station and requests their help. Officers at the police station hack Donning’s iPhone, and are able to locate Lopez's kidnapped family. The police department SWAT team arrives at the safe house where Lopez's wife and son are held. SWAT raids the safe house, kills both the kidnappers, and reunites Lopez with his family. We see the movie close with characters and captions: “TWO YEARS LATER.”
