SYNOPSIS:
Written by: Nadine Weathersby
Logline: After dying and transferring to an afterlife, a man is reunited with his wife and chronicles his experiences in a diary.
Synopsis:
Henry has a heart attack on the street and dies, but his astral form keeps walking, unaware of the death at first. As he becomes aware, his deceased wife, Gertrude, appears to ease his transition, introducing him to ‘Postmortemia’, a higher plane of existence described as a suburb of heaven. He meets a Teacher, who, along with Gertrude, teaches him about how his existence has changed as a result of death and how to function on this new plane, including how to change his appearance.
He attends his own funeral on Earth, learning about how a few ‘alive’ people can see him, but is caught off-guard by his own dead body, causing a crisis of faith that nearly drags him to an empty place, a section of the afterlife for people who cannot move on. His Teacher continues his habitation and discovers that Henry is keeping a diary of his experiences that might prove useful to those on Earth. Henry slowly learns that teachings of the afterlife are difficult as many interpretations exist, and more still are fearful of it.
The Teacher brings Yeshua (Jesus) to visit Henry and Gertrude one night, much to their bafflement, and calls them his friends. He also emphasizes the potential importance of the diary, and hints that the two of them might be useful to him in the future. After a few weeks, Henry decides that he is ready to ‘move on’ – to enter an even higher plane of existence, over the mountain to Heaven itself. The Teacher shows him how to do it, but when he freaks out over Gertrude envisioning herself without a thumb, is told that he isn’t ready.
Henry spends the day realising that they aren’t tethered to human bodies anymore, simply realising that these are the forms they choose for themselves because they are what is most well-known to them. He envisions himself without a body, and becomes a bright light instead, one that can merge with Gertrude’s. Yeshua and the Teacher see this and confirm that they are now ready. Yeshua informs Henry that he will eventually become a teacher himself. The Teacher transforms into a light of his own, and leads the two of them to the next plane.
