Left at the altar, a quick-witted singer/actor is determined to follow her dream of making it on Broadway, in this musical/comedy mash-up we find her singing and slinging in a rundown cabaret — where she falls for a handsome, gay Argentine facing deportation.
SYNOPSIS:
EVA LIPSHITZ, a 30-something, girl-next-door type is primed and ready to marry the love of her life after many years of waiting for him to pop the question. On that fateful day she finds that her beloved has disappeared and left without a trace. Crushed and humiliated Eva realizes that the thing she wanted most in life – to be married - has just made way for the submerged dream she has denied all her life – to sing on Broadway. She packs a few things, hops on the next bus and is determined to fulfill her dream.
Eva arrives in New York City with her life savings, what little there is, and sets out to find a job, a place to live – other than Port Authority Bus Terminal – and a chance to make her way in a city she knows little about.
Eva finds her way to a run down restaurant and bar that is advertising for a waitress. While waiting to talk to the manager she meets ROBERTO MUNOZ a handsome young Argentinian waiter/dancer/cab-driver who treats her with some kindness and offers to help her get the job.
As it happens, while she lies about having waitressing experience, with Roberto’s prompting, she is not lying when the manager asks if she can sing. It turns out the bar has a small stage and the manager has just lost their only talent willing to work for tips. Eva jumps at the opportunity and is soon singing between her waitressing shifts
As her relationship with Roberto develops, she realizes two things about him - besides her growing crush – he is gay and he is soon to be deported. The fact that he is gay does not diminish her growing love for him and her desire to help him with his dilemma. Soon their lives will be intimately entwined.
