As a small-town wrestling phenom battles injury and expectation on the way to a state title, his police-officer father's indictment forces him to confront loyalty, inheritance, and the true cost of escape.
SYNOPSIS:
Set in small-town Mississippi, the story follows Jacobi Knox, a gifted high school wrestler fighting through a serious ankle injury as he chases a long-elusive state championship and a college future beyond his hometown. As the pressure mounts, Jacobi’s world fractures when his father Terry, a decorated police officer, is indicted for murder, leaving the family publicly shamed and privately unraveling.
With Terry jailed and awaiting trial, Jacobi is forced to navigate his final season under the watchful eyes of recruiters, classmates, and a community quick to judge. His estranged mother Jackie, newly sober and seeking redemption, returns to support him, while his uncle Tray, a hardened military veteran, steps in as both protector and disciplinarian—pushing Jacobi to confront pain, faith, and the legacy he’s inherited.
As Jacobi battles his way through the state tournament, the mat becomes a crucible where injury, loyalty, and identity collide. Victory offers escape, but at a cost: choosing a future may mean leaving behind a father who can no longer lead him home.
In the end, Jacobi claims the championship on his own terms, earning a chance to leave Mississippi—but not before facing the truth of who he is, what he carries, and what must be let go.
