Icebreakers is the story of Bryson Grimes, a double agent fighting to thwart the hijacking of two Russian nuclear icebreakers and to prevent the rise of a new cold war between the U.S. and the allied nations of Russia, China, and North Korea.
SYNOPSIS:
BRYSON GRIMES has retired from the CIA. After an assignment in Syria in which he was double-crossed and two of his men died, he decides to call it quits. Now living in Spain as a mercenary for hire, he sells his “special services” to the highest bidder.
When the CIA’s Terrorist Task Force identifies an impending attack on the U.S., HENRY BURNS is handed a folder on Russian arms trader ROBELLE TRIFAN. He is ordered to put together a team to infiltrate the rebel’s organization and decipher their secret plans. He quickly realizes that he needs Grimes’ help.
However, Grimes is reluctant to rejoin the agency that betrayed him. Things become complicated when Trifan’s organization also comes looking for Grimes’ assistance. He joins them when he is offered $6 million and sees an opportunity for revenge against the man who murdered his men in Syria. He later agrees to join Burns’ task force team as well, serving as a CIA double agent.
Espionage, mystery, and intrigue ensue. We find that Burns’ boss, MICHAEL ROWE, has a history with Trifan’s organization, having contracted projects to them for years as the agency secretly destabilized the Soviet Union. Furthermore, we learn that it was Rowe who sent Grimes to Syria to work with Trifan and who pulled all military support when the mission went awry.
ANDREV KUDRIK, head of the Russian Secret Police (RSP) gets involved when two nuclear icebreakers are hijacked in the Arctic North. Well prepared, he already has his own spy in place deep within Trifan’s organization. We learn that Trifan is bartering nuclear munitions in exchange for money and advanced technology. He’s planning a coup against Moscow and wants to rebuild the old Soviet Union with himself in charge. Intelligent, determined, amply resourced, and partnered with North Korea and China, Rowe is afraid that he may actually be able to pull it off.
Grimes pieces together all the story’s clues, solving the many mysteries. Thrilling action scenes take place throughout as he fights enemies within the CIA and Trifan’s rebel organization, rescues hostages aboard the hijacked icebreakers, and ultimately uncovers a secret terrorist with his own hidden agenda.
