After a spaceship crashes in East LA, a mixed-status Latino family rescues an alien and has to find the courage to defy government officials and save the alien from an evil that could spell the end of humanity.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s 1994 and protesters across California are fighting Prop 187 (a xenophobic anti-immigration bill) when an impressionable young alien is tragically orphaned after his family’s spaceship crashes into the heart of East LA. Arturito (the name eventually given to the alien) is first discovered by Lalo, a brave Mexican-American pre-teen with a heart of gold, who brings Arturito to his home in El Sereno. Having recently lost his own father and older brother when they tried to rescue strangers from a neighborhood fire, Lalo becomes a kind of older brother to the young alien, teaching him the ropes and looking out for him as they try and figure out Arturito’s reason for visiting earth while keeping him safe from government officials.
