SYNOPSIS:

In ancient Judea, three powerful Magi - Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthasar - converge at a stable in Bethlehem where Mary has given birth to Jesus. Each brings gifts, but they have different motives. Melchior, who previously saved Mary during the fall of Mizpah, pledges to protect her and the child. Gaspar serves King Herod, who sees the prophesied child as a threat and orders its death. Young Prince Balthasar falls in love with Mary. As Herod's army approaches, the three Magi's forces clash. Melchior sacrifices his life protecting Mary and the baby, losing his own wife Arredonna and son Matthew in the process. Through clever deception involving Melchior's stillborn daughter, they manage to save Jesus. Mary dies in the battle, while Herod is afflicted with leprosy and his army retreats. In the end, Arredonna survives and agrees to become Jesus's surrogate mother, fleeing with Joseph while Balthasar provides cover for their escape. The story concludes with the traditional biblical account of the three wise men bringing gifts, while the true tale of sacrifice remains untold.
