A seemingly successful couple from New York City loses everything and becomes stranded in Northern Australia while on holiday. Their only hope is to make it back to Sydney under their own devices, but it seems like everything - and everyone - in the outback wants them dead.

SYNOPSIS:

Jonathan and Rebecca Buckley are a seemingly successful couple from Manhattan. They both have good careers, they live in a swanky apartment on the Upper West Side, and consistently host lavish dinner parties for their large group of friends. So why do they struggle to pay the phone bill at the end of each month? They live beyond their means in an effort to “keep up with the Joneses”.

Long hours and living separate lives have seen their relationship deteriorate over recent years and Jonathan is worried that they have become more like flatmates than partners. When offered a lucrative contract and given the opportunity to travel to Australia to pitch a high-rise development he designed, Jonathan uses the excuse to surprise Bec with an extravagant vacation. The plan is to spend ten days in Broome, Western Australia, and ten days in Sydney. Of course, when booking the trip, everything looks close on a map.

Their vacation is going well and they are soaking up all of the beauty that Western Australia has to offer. In truly decadent fashion, they are living the highlife – private plane trips, swimming with dolphins, daily massages on the beach, and five-star dining - paid for by credit cards and an expensive overdraft.

Back in NYC, things aren’t going so well. Jonathan’s 'best friend', Jeremy, is up to his neck in gambling debt, and the local mob boss comes knocking on his door for collection. Faced with losing an important part of his anatomy, Jeremy cleans out Jonathan’s bank account and, in the process, implicates him in an international drug ring. When Jonathan’s boss hears of this, she cuts off his phone, email, and credit cards.

Jonathan and Bec are stranded. When all hope seems lost, they accept a lift to Sydney from Lucky, a local truck driver. Couped up in the cabin of a road-train with Lucky and his flatulent dog, Digga, the Buckley’s set off on the adventure of a lifetime. Bec is dubious about the trip, but Jonathan reassures her that they live in the toughest city on the planet. “We’re New Yorkers. This will be a walk in the park”. They just need to get to Sydney. Everything will be ok.

There’s an urban myth about the land down under - that has more truth to it than most people credit; Everything in Australia wants to kill you. Jonathan and Bec soon discover this the hard way. Dropped in the middle of one of the harshest environments on the planet, and pursued by a hitman that suffers from OCD, and the Australian Federal Police, they soon realise that this has become a quest for survival. They must get through this together - as a team – and therein lies their biggest challenge.

Hosting a cast of wonderful Australian characters and breathtaking scenery, Buckley’s Chance is a rollicking adventure that never lets go. Spanning the entire breadth of this vast country, it’s a road trip like nothing before. But will they make it? Well, the locals give them two chances…
