WHY GOOFY HATES MICKEY

WHY GOOFY HATES MICKEY
By Rick Helin

GENRE: Historical, Biography
LOGLINE:

The 'Almost True Story' of a down on his luck cartoonist who rebounds from being fired by a major studio.  With an unlikely team of misfits, he builds a media empire based upon deception.

SYNOPSIS:

[ NOTE: This screenplay was created as an homage to Walt Disney, thus the prolific use of copyrighted intellectual property. The time is right for his company to produce a dramatic, technical tribute to him, starring Walt himself. The necessary 'Deep Fakes' can be generated by Disney's own Medusa VFX face-swapping technology, plus other house tools like Masquerade. Archival images of Walt and Lilly Disney, Roy Disney, Ub Iwerk, et al, circa 1928 are abundant and patiently waiting for their return to center stage. This story, concealed for generations, should finally be revealed... using animating tools Walt could only imagine. Good effort Tom Hanks, but there will only be one Walt.]

This 'AlmostTrue Story' takes place in Los Angeles 1928 just as brothers, Walt and Roy Disney, are fired from their animation jobs at Universal Pictures. More importantly, the brothers also lose their right to animate "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit", a cartoon character that made them semi-famous. They are determined to start over by opening their own animation studio, if only they can find the necessary venture capital and a lovable new character to replace Oswald.

Sadly, every overture for financial backing meets with rejection once investors discover the Brothers' earlier attempt to become independent landed the parties in bankruptcy court.

This is when they encounter George Geef and his cocktail waitress girlfriend, Mandie Babitsky. George is a wannabe prize fighter from Chicago who's new in town, a bit insecure yet determined to do whatever it takes to become famous. Mandie is one hell of a smart cookie, sophisticated, and success driven.

With some arm-twisting, George and Mandie convince the Disney Brothers to abandon their traditional hand-drawn animation, and acquire the exclusive rights to Gyro Granaski's primitive motion-capture technology which utilizes real actors.

Our story culminates with the clandestine filming of Disney's iconic "Steamboat Willie" on a make-shift soundstage and the ultimate film conversion of these performances into comical images we know and love today.

Preconceived notions of animation history will be turned on their heads as this longest and best kept secret in Hollywood is revealed.
