Lawrence Whitener The setup of a hardened man forced to care for a granddaughter he barely knows has strong dramatic potential, especially when layered with issues of race and generational conflict. However, the wording could benefit from more sensitivity and clarity. For instance, rather than labeling the character “crotchety racist,” you might frame his worldview as part of the character arc, e.g., “a bitter, old-fashioned rancher grappling with deep-seated prejudice.” Also, the mention of awards and IMDb isn’t necessary in the logline itself. It’s better suited for a pitch or query letter. Highlighting the mule as a symbolic or unifying force is unique and touching; lean into that emotional core.
