The early circus sequence is a real strength and easily one of the most effective parts of the script.
It’s creepy, disorienting, and haunting, and the way it’s written creates immediate shock value without feeling cheap.
Being thrown back in time with very little context works in the story’s favor and makes the violence feel sudden and traumatic rather than staged. That scene does a lot of heavy lifting by setting up the emotional damage that carries into the rest of the film. The mystery is another major strength. Trying to understand who the killer is and how the murders connect keeps the story engaging. This has the bones of a strong genre film. There’s a wide audience that responds to dark, character-driven horror with emotional weight.
The combination of serial killer elements, family trauma, and heightened set pieces puts it in the same general space as HEREDITARY and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO. The circus imagery and clown mythology give the project a clear hook. Also, the period setting helps it stand out from more generic contemporary horror. This feels well-suited for companies like A24 or Neon, as well as streamers that are open to bold, unsettling material.
