WITCH MOTHER
By Selma Karayalcin

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

Five centuries after the Pendle witches were hanged, a fame-hungry student awakens a vengeful spirit determined to possess nine-year-old Jenny Device’s soul in order to free her own. To save her daughter, Martha must embrace the darkness — and become the Witch Mother she was born to be.

SYNOPSIS:

Set in modern-day Lancashire, the story follows Martha Device, a rational woman who wants nothing to do with her ancestry. But when her daughter Jenny turns nine — the same age Jennet was when she betrayed her family — strange things begin to happen. The family lives in Malkin Tower, the original Device home at the foot of Pendle Hill — now an Airbnb. Each year, on the anniversary of the executions, they stay indoors at night, protected by an ancient rite. But when a fame-obsessed student named Angel livestreams a ritual, she accidentally awakens Elizabeth’s spirit.

Elizabeth seeks retribution. To finally find peace, she must take Jenny’s soul — and those who try to protect the child begin to die in brutal echoes of the old witch punishments: burned, drowned, hanged, beheaded, buried alive.

Angel becomes both instigator and Greek chorus — her livestreams feeding public voyeurism and turning trauma into spectacle.

‘Witch Mother’ is a standalone feature with franchise potential. Its tone is atmospheric, emotionally driven, and grounded in folklore — in the vein of ‘Hereditary’ and ‘The Witch’. At its core, it’s a story about motherhood, identity, and inherited trauma — and the dangerous power we’re sometimes forced to confront to protect the ones we love.
