Olivia dies, but she cannot rest. The funeral makeup artist, Mariana, didn't follow her wishes by putting on layers of heavy makeup that defined her. Through a crazy night, rebellious goth Mariana and proper church lady Olivia create a bond of love and understanding.
SYNOPSIS:
Olivia Washington, a conservative Methodist woman, has passed away in her home. Days later she is being prepared for her funeral service by cosmetologist, Mariana. Mariana, a goth girl and an after hours exotic performer, refuses to apply the heavy make up from the reference material. She says, “Olivia has a natural beauty.” Rachel, her best friend and manager, reminds Mariana that Olivia is central to the largest church in town. Mariana dismisses this concern after asking Nathan, Olivia’s husband, for his blessing. That night Olivia herself bangs on Mariana's shower door. Shocked, Mariana throws shower items at the glass door. Olivia demands her to get back to the funeral home and, “Fix my face!”. Mariana grabs a towel and confronts Olivia with her professional opinion. Then Nathan appears. Olivia hugs him and asks if he died too? “I’m here.”, he replies. Mariana considers this spectacle an illusion from a dire lack of sleep. She retires. Olivia and Nathan, in low spirits, wisp off to a beloved park and discuss their situation. They return to Mariana who, still physically asleep, can now wisp around with them. The three travel instantly back to Olivia and Nathan’s home. They observe Olivia’s daughter’s family, who are sleeping in the living room. Mariana is deeply touched with the closeness of their family. Suddenly there is snoring from the hallway. It’s Nathan’s snoring. He abruptly awakes in bed. Sadden, he enters the hallway and meets up with his daughter, Anna. They sit in the kitchen remembering, with love and joy, the life of Olivia. Meanwhile, Mariana follows Olivia to a meadow. The more intimate their conversation, the more their appearances change; Olivia more churchly, Mariana more Goth. They connect with tears and respect for each other. Mariana wakes in her room calling for Olivia. She roams her apartment, centering on a poster which gives her a solution. The funeral home is packed with church members. At the end of the service, all are ushered out to mingle, except Rachel, Mariana, Nathan and Anna. Rachel watches the chapel door as Mariana clears off Olivia’s heavy makeup the church community knew her for. She replaces a lightly toned, natural beauty to her face. With last goodbyes from Nathan and Anna, the coffin is closed. A weepy eyed Rachel whispers to Mariana, “Perfect.”
