A brazen woman in a relationship with a desperate detective must choose whether to assist him in his human trafficking investigation or risk losing her best friend forever.
SYNOPSIS:
Nayeli is a 20-something black American woman who finds herself in the mix between her two love interests: Her childhood best friend, who has gotten himself wrapped up in some local gang drama, and a police officer she is skeptical of because the police killed her younger brother.
The story starts off in media res with Keoni, a mid-twenties black American male, and Nayeli being Intimate in a hotel, where she finds out that Keoni is a police officer. She is appalled by this and rejects him because she holds animosity towards the police because they killed her baby brother. Meanwhile, down the street in a warehouse, La Cabra, whose identity will later be revealed to be Checo, a mid-twenties Dominican and black American male and also Nayeli’s childhood best friend, and Javier is in the midst of human trafficking girls, where La Cabra has a revelation: he doesn’t want to live this gang life anymore. However, Javier reminds him that he can only get out through death. The deal goes bad, and the two have to decide what to do with the girls they’ve kidnapped without upsetting the boss of their gang, La Familia, Papi.
The next day starts at the police station, where Danny, Mike, and Gabe are playing around instead of working on the case. Keoni comes in and straightens them up before he is called into the office by his superior. His superior informs him that unless he makes a breakthrough in this case, he will not only lose his promotion but also his job. In the afternoon, Guero, Javier, and Checo, who is revealed to be La Cabra, meet with Papi to discuss what to do with the girls and the mistake that was made. Papi reveals that he has each of their family members, and if they don’t fix their mistake, he’ll kill them off one by one.
Later that night, Nayeli goes to meet up with Checo at his house. Checo flirts with Nayeli before confessing his feelings for her, she feels the same but rejects him nonetheless. They watch a movie, and Checo falls asleep, and Nayeli wakes him up not long after to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom, there is no tissue, and in the process of looking for some, she discovers a burner phone with one of the missing girls on it, her best friend.
The next day Nayeli calls a meeting with Keoni to report what she has found out. He tries to get her to wear a wire but she is hesitant. She agrees after Keoni convinces her to do it. A few days later Nayeli attends a party where she comes with the wire but soon tosses it in the trash. Nayeli gets harassed at the party and isn’t trusted. She soon earns their trust by playing cards. She meets Mike, who is at the party and also works at the police station. He questions her but she cuts him off by going to the bathroom. In the bathroom, she checks the sink cabinet again but the phone is gone this time around. Keoni is working late night at the station with Danny, Mike, and Gabe when Nayeli calls Keoni after leaving the party reporting what she finds but Mike interrupts their call. Nayeli manages to set up a meeting with Keoni before their call is disconnected. Keoni meets up with Nayeli but is followed by Mike unknowingly, Fade out.
