A loyal soldier’s quest for redemption leaves him in no-man’s land, when he’s recruited to covertly gather evidence of a police protected drug ring, run by murderous London mobsters and masterminded by a powerful businessman’s thirst for revenge.

SYNOPSIS:

1988, Elizabeth Ardent, the newly appointed Home Secretary defies protocol by drafting a mixed race intelligence officer to covertly gather evidence of alleged police involvement in the supply of drugs to London’s nightclub scene. Posing as a nightclub owner in the West End, Jake is plunged into a world of organised crime, running the gauntlet between criminal gangs and hostile police. Despite the odds, he soon has the biggest dance club in town until rival club owners plot to close him down by setting up a gangland shooting in which Ada, the girl he’s fallen in love with, is killed and “The Club” is closed.

Devastated, Jake goes AWOL, but having promised justice for Ada, he returns to Special Branch with a plan. He convinces Elizabeth that setting up a door security firm with Benton his head doorman, will get them the intel they need. His professional approach makes M19 Security an unwelcome success amongst rival firms and Jake’s persona is changed forever as he puts his life on the line through the carnage that ensues. In time, he knows the beat officers involved, the dealers they’re protecting and the criminal gang bosses running the supply, but he still needs to identify the top brass and the source of Ecstasy and Amphetamine production.

The man behind the drugs supply is Mr Li, a business mogul, who runs London’s Chinatown. His great grandfather came to London and opened the first Chinese restaurant in Soho in a bid to re-build their honour in the aftermath of the Opium Wars. Longing to avenge his ancestors for their Century of Shame, he’s recruited by Chinese Intelligence who’ve several plans to weaken Britain’s productivity, one of which is to make the working population drug dependent, in revenge for the way British merchants plied Opium to tea farmers to destroy China’s domination in tea production. Under instruction, he’s compromised a Metropolitan Police Commander in order to set up the protected drug dealing network and set up a state-of-the-art production facility called Vita Manufacturing, producing health supplements by day and illicit drugs by night.

Elizabeth finds her position is being undermined by misogynist cabinet members and is unwittingly trapped by Cecil Walker, a duplicitous Trade Secretary who has a back door deal with Mr Li and his Chinese conglomerate to award them a contentious government contract for the new mobile phone networks infrastructure hardware, putting her fast-tracked career in jeopardy. As Jake’s influence grows in London’s underworld, an ambitious crime boss offers him a slice of the action if he assists in taking out his rivals in the police protected supply. Jake agrees on condition that they have approval of the source and at long last a meeting is set up with Mr Li.

Having learnt of Jake and worried that the trail might lead to him, Cecil Walker instructs Foley a fellow accomplice and Jake’s commander to betray him. Elizabeth is forced to resign amidst allegations of wrongdoing and en route home is killed in an “accident”. Hearing this news and with hitmen on his heels, Jake reaches out to a journalist friend, who sets up a meeting in a car park with Finnegan, the editor of The London Times. At the meet, Jacky is killed by a hitman and Jake is grievously injured. Finnegan panics at the scene and tries to flee but Jake forces him to drive him to hospital at gun point.

Jake wakes up in hospital with Finnegan and Feodor Olov, a Russian Oligarch and owner of The London Times at his bedside. Having printed his revelations, the police commander committed suicide, several police officers and crime bosses were arrested. Foley took the Trade Secretary hostage to extract a confession but was killed by armed police, but Mr Li escaped the country. With a price on his head and uncertain if the police officers will be convicted, Jake is offered a way out. Within hours he’s slipped away on a small boat to France to handle security for Mr Olov’s business interests.
