In 1959, a New York journalist gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to review a live show featuring

rock bands from the future, unaware that before the night is through his girlfriend will be dead

and he will travel back in time in an attempt to save her life and their future...

SYNOPSIS:

Set in 1959 New York, the story follows Josh Hardin, a young, ambitious journalist at the Village Voice, who dreams of covering major stories but is stuck writing obituaries. On Halloween, his editor unexpectedly assigns him to review a mysterious one-night-only show at the Village Theater. Josh invites his girlfriend, Audrey, an ad clerk and aspiring photographer, to join him. That night, after a romantic dinner where Josh proposes to Audrey, they attend the show, which features legendary rock bands from the future—Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, and Green Day—performing decades before their time. The experience is surreal, and Audrey captures it all on film.

Tragedy strikes when, after the show, Audrey is killed in a hit-and-run accident while retrieving a lost roll of film. Devastated, Josh is left with her undeveloped photos, which reveal impossible details—like a guitar model that shouldn't exist yet. As Josh investigates, he discovers the show was orchestrated by Dr. Silas Holzhauer, a billionaire time traveler from 2027, who staged the event as a personal experiment. Holzhauer reveals the existence of time travel and offers Josh a chance to save Audrey: if Josh goes back in time and prevents her from crossing the street, she will live, but Josh can never return to his original timeline.

Josh accepts, successfully altering history and saving Audrey, but becomes a "man out of time," unable to reclaim his old life. Holzhauer recruits Josh into his secretive organization, the Orion Company, which uses time travel to manipulate pivotal historical events for what Holzhauer claims is the greater good. Josh undergoes intense physical and tactical training, transforming from a grieving writer into a capable operative.

His first mission is to prevent the assassination of President Kennedy by killing Lee Harvey Oswald before the event. Josh and his partner Grainger succeed, but history remains unchanged—Kennedy is still assassinated, suggesting a second shooter. Holzhauer then sends Josh on a more personal mission: to assassinate Adelaide Reynolds, a future writer whose book will spark a second American civil war. In a shocking twist, Josh discovers Adelaide is his own daughter with Audrey, conceived before he altered the timeline. Unable to kill her, Josh confronts Holzhauer, who reveals he manipulated Josh all along, intending for both Josh and Audrey to die to preserve his own plans.

With the help of Grainger and other Orion staff, Josh overthrows Holzhauer, sending him back in time to die at Gettysburg. Josh and his allies destroy the time tunnel, erasing the Orion Company’s influence. Josh is finally able to reunite with Audrey in the restored timeline, and they build a life together, eventually meeting their daughter Adelaide. The story ends with Josh, now an acclaimed author, reflecting on his extraordinary journey and the power of love, fate, and the choices that define us.
