SYNOPSIS:
In pre-World War II Germany, brilliant albeit arrogant young attorney Hans Litten grills Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in a grueling, three-hour cross-examination. Litten tricks Hitler into admitting that the Nazi Party has been planning illegal, violent acts against the German nation. Thus, Litten becomes Hitler’s most formidable opponent, and a slow, brutal revenge against the idealistic attorney begins. Political tensions soon mount, and Litten’s law practice and personal safety are threatened. Litten’s family begs him to seek sanctuary in America, but he refuses to leave, stating that he will not abandon his clients. Terrified, his father and brothers flee the country while Litten and his mother stay behind. Within hours of the burning of the Reichstag, Hitler orders Litten arrested and thrown into a Berlin prison with a chilling message, “You will be the first to go, and the last to leave.” Thus, Hans Litten arguably becomes the first victim of the horror which someday will be known as the Holocaust. From the first of Hitler’s concentration camps, Litten develops secret codes and “prison pipelines” to activate an international effort, led by Lord Allen of Hurtwood (Great Britain), to stop the Nazi regime. Despite being tortured severely, Litten inspires fellow prisoners and captors alike by his generosity, his breadth of knowledge, and his commitment to enlightened thought. Though ultimately murdered at Dachau, Litten demonstrates incomparable courage in the face of pure evil. The stand taken by Litten and his fellow comrades results in the exposure of Nazi atrocities to the outside world. LITTEN’S PASSION is a true historical drama in the tradition of SCHINDLER’S LIST and OPPENHEIMER, about an ordinary man who becomes extraordinary by standing his ground before an army of evil and risking all to save the soul of a nation.
