LOGLINE:

In post-legalization South Africa, a young Rastafarian event coordinator and performer battles family expectations and corrupt police while striving to build a creative career, in a community still terrorized despite the country's progress.

SYNOPSIS:

In the heart of Katlehong, Johannesburg, a young man named Taxido dreams of carving out a path in the creative world. Born into a community deeply connected to the Rastafari lifestyle, Taxido's passions for event coordination, sound engineering, and performing arts are the lifeblood of his existence. However, his parents, grounded in traditional values, push him toward a stable corporate career, seeing it as the only path to success.

Meanwhile, the legalization of marijuana in South Africa is a bittersweet victory for the Rastafari community. While their spiritual and cultural connection to the herb is finally recognized, corrupt police officers still terrorize them, raiding homes and arresting innocent people. The community's livelihood, built on herb cultivation, cultural events, and hustling in the corporate world, is constantly under threat.

"Sound Clash Mzansi" follows Taxido as he navigates these contradictions: the push-and-pull between personal ambition and family expectations, the constant fear of police brutality, and the pursuit of freedom in a system designed to suppress. Amidst the hardships, Taxido finds solace in the power of music, unity, and the will to stand against corruption. The film is a vibrant, soulful exploration of resilience, community, and the unbreakable spirit of the Rastafari movement in a rapidly changing South Africa.
