SYNOPSIS:
An orphaned thirteen-year-old music composer named Jake and his bloody mate, Ian are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime, when their band lands a huge record deal back in the states. However, a tragic death in the family, strikes Jake to his very core, leaving him to despise his music.
He leaves the band to stay behind and run the family farm. Meanwhile, his old band becomes an overnight sensation.
Years later Ian and the rest of the band return to Bruny Island, in hopes of convincing Jake to be their bass player again. Ian has planned a rock ’n’ roll road trip across the Australian outback, to lure Jake back into the group. Jake, now comfortable in his life as town drunk, delivery driver, and part-time crop duster, does not budge. The farm is in tatters, his grandmother is developing dementia, and his girlfriend Katie, just won’t have it, because of flirty Sally, the band’s rhythm guitarist.
However, when Jake has a chance encounter with two bungling bank-robbers, who are laying low on the island… Things change up a bit after an accidental car and bag switch.
Now international music superstar Ian McIntire convinces Jake to appear at a local TV interview, to play a song with the band, which threatens both his delivery job and his relationship with his girl, Katie.
When her dementia worsens, Jake's grandmother suddenly requires immediate nursing home care. Selling the family farm now appears to be the only option, if he is to stay. Jake must now find the guts within himself to choose between staying, or embracing his music again and leaving Bruny Island… to save the family farm.
The is a working title as it will be the name of the song that both bands will perform. I chose songs from The DeFranco Family, because it helps the era and the core message of the story along. This screenplay was designed to use music as a tool to be both the protagonist and antagonist, which skids along on the rails of the 40 beats as best as it can. However, at the end of the day. It has a cash cow potential, if proper performers and songs are selected. Please, please read the first 40 pages.
