SYNOPSIS:

"Parallel Sisters" is a heartwarming comedy-drama that delves into the complex dynamics of sisterhood, acceptance, and understanding. The story centers around Emily Hope, mid-30s, a successful yet lonely film producer based in New York City. After experiencing a recent divorce and multiple miscarriages, Emily, now pregnant, yearns for a fresh start. However, she also struggles with the absence of her estranged younger sister, Francesca 'Fred' Hope, mid-20s.

Fred, a lesbian designer-turned-firefighter trainee, was ostracized by their ultra-religious family a decade ago because of her sexuality. At the time, Emily, immersed in her college life and sharing her father's religious biases, failed to reach out to her sister.

Upon their father's passing, a more open-minded Emily attempts to reconnect with Fred. Yet, their reunion at the Coney Island Boardwalk descends into a heated argument, with Fred rebuffing Emily's overtures at reconciliation. In desperation, Emily encounters the Zoltar fortune-telling machine, just like the one from her favorite film Big, and makes a wish, hoping for a second chance to mend their relationship.

Simultaneously, Fred encounters a mysterious woman who presents her with an enigmatic pink pill, promising enlightenment. The sisters wake up the next morning to find they have inexplicably switched bodies. The cause of this switch — whether it's Emily's wish or Fred's pill — remains a mystery. Nonetheless, they are compelled to navigate each other's drastically different lives, all the while seeking a solution to their predicament.

Trapped in each other's bodies, Emily and Fred gain firsthand experiences of the other's life - its trials and triumphs, prejudices and privileges. Emily confronts the harsh realities and discrimination Fred faces, while Fred grapples with the loneliness and pressures enveloping Emily's affluent lifestyle. This newfound understanding begins to pave the way for potential reconciliation.

As they scramble to undo the body swap and confront their misunderstandings, Emily and Fred discover they have more in common than they initially thought. This unexpected journey might finally bridge the decade-long gap between them.
