Upon his release from nearly seven decades in prison, an 86-year-old pardoned convict struggles to find his purpose until he begins to mentor a young man bent on the same path of destruction he once travelled.
SYNOPSIS:
*The idea for this story came to me after reading Marcus Aurelius' book, 'Meditations' - Yes, the title is the same as the book, just because for me it was the main element of the story. :)
"Stoicism teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions..."
- It may be a lonely existence for Joseph now that he is free, but he holds fast to his faith. He is acutely aware of the world and people around him, sensing the pain and anger that fill their lives. A chance encounter at a diner opens the door for him to mentor a young man; the son of the waitress that has been serving him. His intervention is unwelcomed, but Joseph's testimony and passion to change a life wins the heart of the young man - bringing him back from the brink of going too far, and in the end, reuniting a family.

One small suggestion, James Goodwin: Change "86-year-old Joseph" to "an 86-year-old ____________ (the protagonist with an adjective)."
