By Nicole Pouchet

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

When a scientist discovers the cure for aging, she is called upon to defend humanity’s morality in an Inter-Planetary Council trial in order to prevent the genocide of all mankind.

SYNOPSIS:

THE CASE FOR HUMANITY is a humorous, thought-provoking sci-fi feature about a female, African-American scientist who must defend humanity’s right to exist in an alien trial.

DANI accidentally discovers the key to immortality while trying to cure Alzheimer’s to save her sick dad. Unfortunately, this feat attracts the attention of the Inter-Planetary Council (IPC), the group of aliens that police the universe; and they decide that war-mongering humans probably shouldn’t be allowed to have infinite lifespans. It’s time to exterminate the pesky species.

Since Dani is the one who’s brought the wrath of the IPC to Earth, she’s tasked with coming up with a defense for humanity. Not to worry, though. She’s got the standard IPC defense prep time allotment of two days! Seasoned alien prosecutor, DRAKARA, throws Dani a loaded lifeline when she offers the opportunity to escape humanity’s destruction. If Dani will abandon the case and let humanity be destroyed without a fight, Drakara will secretly escort Dani and her loved ones to safety on a warm little planet far from the hazards of Earth. Dani’s got to decide if humanity is worth saving fast. With the help of her altruistic boyfriend, her cynical best friend, and a weird Italian student who turns out to be her alien legal counsel, Dani struggles to find the good in her fellow man and just maybe save the world.
