When the horrible mythical creature starts consuming human souls and eating the unborn babies, the businessman determined to save his family risks his life to vanquish the monster and send it back to Hell before it consumes them all.
SYNOPSIS:
The story is about vicious, vampire-like blood-sucking mythical creature Manananggal from Philippine folklore. It has the ability to sever its upper torso from its lower torso and sprout huge wings that resemble bat wings, which it uses to fly through the sky and search for its next victim.
When its upper torso lifts from the ground with the connected wings, its intestines trail behind. Its main food are the unborn babies and fetuses but in between it is nothing more than a man-eating and blood-sucking monster.
THE STORY SUMMARY:
SHORT BACKGROUND
There’s a story, a belief circling around the City of Palayan that the Manananggal still lives among the citizens. No one knows who she might be. On the night of the full Moon the screams and growls echo through the woods and streets. Shortly after, a Manananggal can be seen in the sky.
ACT I
MARCUS and JULIA REYES are the ones thrown into the claws of evil. They have a year-old baby boy. Marcus, a well-known businessman informs his four months pregnant wife about his important seminar in Manila. He’ll be absent for a day or two. Julia is afraid, but tries not to tell him about it. The scene moves outside and we see a dark hair woman hiding from the light and her turning into a monster. At the same time, a flock of bats attacks Julia’s sister EVA in her bed and almost kill her. Eva visits her sister tomorrow morning. But as soon as she explains Julia what happened last night, she mysteriously disappears.
ACT II
Eva is back at her home, petrified. She hears human screams and growls coming from the street. Then silence. The knocking breaks the silence followed by a heavy breathing and groaning. Silence consumes all. Eva hardly manages to get up and open the door. But she gets scared to death. The Manananggal rushes and jumps on her. It starts ripping her flesh and eating her. Slowly. Piece by piece. Later that night, Julia calls Eva, but realizes that this is not her sister on the other side. It was Manananggal imitating her voice. Petrified, Julia hides in the bedroom. At the same time, something tells Marcus that his wife could be in danger so he leaves the meeting and flies back home. In the meantime, at home Manananggal attacks Julia, but she manages to send the monster away with the garlic. Marcus arrives to Palayan and decides to join the others in slaying the monster. They drag its legs to the city square and put them in the garlic circle.
ACT III / CULMINATION
Marcus comes home and the next very morning he makes a crucial mistake. He meets and accepts to help the creature to rejoin again in return to her completely disappearing and leaving them in peace. That was a tremendous lie. The creature gets wild as soon as the Moon completely shows itself. The next day Julia expresses that she wants to see her sister. She does not believe that she might be already dead. When they reach Eva’s home, they stay frightened, especially Marcus. He enters inside and almost pukes out of the horrible sight. Eva’s body on the floor; floating in blood, almost severed head.
RESOLUTION
The monster attacks Julia again. Marcus stabs the monster, but it does not stop at all. As the monster tries to eat Julia’s baby, Marcus cuts its wings and disappears for a few moments. It makes the creature furious and it runs after him. Marcus comes back dragging her legs. He holds a salt bag and the garlic in his left hand. It’s almost Sunrise. He swings the garlic before the creature. The garlic burns half of its face. The Sun is up. Marcus uses this moment and pours the salt all over its legs and hanging intestines. The creature screams and starts burning. It turns into ashes.
