A group of outsiders flip an Arizona lake town on its head attempting to rescue a bullied marina from snobby, yacht club encroachment by staging a mammoth, end-of-season, pro wakeboarding festival against the wishes of the town’s hardnosed park rangers.
SYNOPSIS:
Callun and his best friends kick off summer by wakeboarding and hosting a raucous house party at their lake house.
Accusing him of having no direction, Cal’s girlfriend breaks up with him. The next day, Callun is kicked out of his rental which jeopardizes the fun summer he and his friends had planned.
Upset by his lack of responsibility, Callun’s parents demand that he get a job. Rather than move back home and work all summer, Cal convinces his best friend Joe to pay for the group to road trip to Lake Victoria, Arizona where a childhood crush “Nika” can hook them up with jobs at her family’s Marina. Reluctantly Joe agrees and the group finds themselves on the road in search of the endless summer.
The guys meet up with Nika, who has grown into a beautiful and sassy young woman. Cal is immediately stricken with her. The guys make it their first order of business to wakeboard on the lake. At first things appear to be great but the lack of a strong wake community leads to rising tensions between individual wake crews and Cal fights with Nika’s ex-boyfriend, a prominent person in the community. Zeke and Dalton, two grouchy Park Rangers, step in to spoil all the fun by picking on the crew and ticketing them with “Open
Container” violations and threats against the Marina. Cal, Nika and the others make it their goal to throw a
professional wakeboarding event called “Shake The Lake” at the end of the summer.
Nika’s father agrees to help the guys promote their event and get industry businesses, riders and sponsors onboard. Everyone works hard and plays hard during the busy tourist season on the lake. A budding relationship blooms between Callun and Nika. They enlist the help of the Marina workers and a washed up talent agent named McClouski who teaches the group how to successfully put together a professional event.
However, the Park Rangers and quite a few of the wealthy townspeople don’t look kindly on the event or those putting it on and obstacles begin to stack up. Obstacles that threaten all the work they’ve done during the summer and even the future of the Marina and the well-being of Nika’s family.
Days before the event, Callun slips back to his old ways and throws a massive houseboat party in celebration. The Park Rangers shut it down and revoke the Shake The Lake permit. Callun has to mature and find his life’s direction in order to successfully pull off the event, protect the marina, get the girl and save his summer.
