Josie Andrews, a smart-mouthed alien scout and deadly mercenary, is on a mission to help her race destroy humanity. While on Nantucket, she runs afoul of another alien named Jazz Matteson with a conflicting mission- to save the worthless humans- and some equally deadly charm. Needless to say, things get very complicated very quickly.

SYNOPSIS:

Josie Andrews is vacationing on Nantucket, enjoying the beaches and plotting humanity's destruction with her alien brethren, the Yirshen. Things are going swimmingly until she runs into alien Jazz Matteson, a Jeminar Planter with a conflicting mission: to rescue humanity from "the meaner races", aka, Josie's species. Unfortunately for both of them, Jazz accidentally bites Josie during a fight, marking her as his mate. They are now bound together for life.

Jazz drags a protesting Josie to Madaket to seek advice from fellow Planter Bronson, who lives in the village with his own mate and Jeminar healer, Kati. Upon their return to Downtown Nantucket, Josie, Jazz, and his dog Danny are pursued and captured by beings claiming to represent another race, the Risu. A renegade Risu servant named Viyn tells Josie of her people's glorious origins and offers her a chance to fight for their restoration. However, she will have to leave Jazz behind. Struggling with her confusing feelings for Jazz, Josie turns Viyn down.

Viyn soon reveals himself to be a fellow Yirshen in disguise named Detro. He orders Josie to murder Jazz to prove her loyalty, but Josie instead escapes with him from the compound. She stuns him, leaves Danny to hide him, and turns herself in to her kin in order to free Jazz. Back on a Yirshen secondary cruiser, Josie's master Cregun sentences her to death, but Bronson, Kati, and Jazz manage to rescue her. Just as they are about to flee, Cregun captures Jazz, shoots Josie, and jettisons Bronson's ship.

Kati uses her healing powers to save Josie's life as Bronson manages to land back on Earth. When Josie wakes, they regroup and return to Detro's compound. Fighting their way inside, they tie him down and torture him for information. It turns out Jazz is a Jeminar conduit, capable of consolidating the power of all Jeminar specimens into himself. He can turn an entire other race immortal, at the cost of his own race's lives- hence why the Yirshen want him.

Bronson, Kati, and Josie fly to the mother ship and make it aboard, but are quickly separated. Josie is captured by Cregun's right hand man Milrin and brought to the giant hall, where Cregun is holding Jazz. Cregun attempts to use Josie to force Jazz to transfer his power, but Jazz buys time for Kati and Bronson to drop from the ceiling and light the room on fire, killing most of the Yirshen. Josie faces off with Cregun in a final showdown, ultimately defeating him. The four escape as the Yirshen ship explodes in a glorious fireball in their wake. Josie and Jazz return to Nantucket to relax and enjoy their newfound love- for now. A strange figure approaches with an equally mysterious message...
