A snobbish city girl must get the geeky laughingstock of her new school to date and dump her, as part of a plan to get her dad to move her out of their new hick-town home and back to Chicago.
SYNOPSIS:
17-year-old Taylor thought she knew what she wanted in life and in a man. And she's been a dutiful daughter-wife since her mom left when she was ten. She has no problem taking care of her dad's home like an adult, because she loves her cultured, independent life in Chicago.
But when her dad announces that they are moving to a small town called Point Blank, Texas, she starts to feel the depth of her dad's indifference.
Her glimmer of hope in Point Blank is the cheerleading squad. Only, the head cheerleader is a power-hungry hick who demands a humiliating initiation from Taylor. Taylor decides she has no choice but to prove to her dad what a terrible, backwards place this is by going along with the initiation.
But her initiation is Mic O'Donnell (aka Mickey D's, Mic Dundee, Mickey Mouse...). She is to get this geeky, second string running back with a heart of gold, who has been dumped more times than anyone can count, to date her and then dump her.
When, despite her efforts to make him dump her, she finds herself swept off her feet by this sweetheart of a nerd, Taylor only becomes more determined to get her dad to move them back to Chicago.
But everything comes to a halt when she walks in her dad in bed with the big-haired cheer coach Leanne. Taylor learns that her dad has been lying to her for months, and suddenly she finds herself desperate to prove to herself that her dad gives a damn about her.
When it becomes clear that he doesn't care about her humiliation or even care if she parties, she tries to seduce Mic at a time when her dad will walk in on them. But the plans go awry and she ends up admitting to Mic how she has been using him. Heartbroken, he dumps her. She tries to make her dad think she has been sleeping with Mic anyway, but her dad still couldn't care less. In fact, he obliviously announces to Taylor that Leanne has decided to take a job in Chicago, so they are all moving back there.
Taylor is stunned. She has wanted this all along, but now that he's decided to do it for Leanne, Taylor can see just where she ranks with her dad.
Taylor realizes what a mistake she has made with Mic, who truly loved her and fought for her despite all the terrible things she was doing as she tried to make him dump her. So she finally stands up to her dad and tells him she is not moving back with him. Instead, she sets out to win back the guy who has shown her what it feels like to be loved and fought for.
