After recent events strikes LA, a woman named Verdell takes a troubled journey to reach her family and safety in nearby Santa Clarita. She must learn that the time is now to learn how to fight for herself or lose her life.
SYNOPSIS:
The Girls Guide to the Apocalypse is a six episode limited series about of not only how to survive when the world is falling apart faster than you can move but how to survive as a woman whose power and safety are slipping away even faster. We follow Verdell, a woman who wasn’t raised to be assertive and is used to live in a time where being talked over or being paid less than your male counterpart may not make much of a difference day to day, but she’s now in a different time where standing up for yourself and making your own decisions IS survival.
We meet her in her downtown LA office, after an earthquake that has leveled the city and turned everything to chaos. She’s been holed up with her boss, Robert, HR manager Debra and boyfriend/coworker, Bruce. Law and order have been all but suspended. She’s at the bottom of the totem pole, not in charge of anything, and that’s just what she’s used to. When her Bruce points out that her family is just a bus ride away, they decide for her that that’s what they’re going to do. He knows her parents are conspiracy theorists that live in the quiet neighborhoods of Santa Clarita with a large amount of canned goods and she has unresolved issues with them that make her hesitant to go back.
She agrees to take them with her on the public bus for Santa Clarita. As they set out on their trip down the 118, she realizes she needs to be the arbiter of her own agency for the first time in her life.
She has flashbacks of what life was like when she lived with them, but she lets them steamroll her into catching the next bus that comes by.
It’s a hard journey that almost immediately gets derailed and her survival skills will be tested.
Now is the time she finds her value as a woman.
