SYNOPSIS:

Sky City Haya is gritty and R-rated. It is a character-driven, post-apocalyptic sci-fi/mystery series set 200 years in the future. Climate change has ravaged much of the world. The oceans have risen, wiping coastlines, major cities and in some cases entire nations off the map. Millions of denationalized refugees fill camps across the world, spawning a major humanitarian crisis. Large corporations band together to create the world’s most powerful consortium, XKON,in order to stem the chaos and restore balance. Their efforts culminate in the founding of humanity’s first sky city. The plan is to house the world’s embattled refugee population. Over 2 decades it grows to dozens of individual, stadium-sized platforms spread over 7 kilometers. However, the rich and powerful soon move into the city. This marginalizes the refugee population, relegating them to a cheap labor workforce.

The city is nearing its big moment - the historic 20th-anniversary celebrations accompanied by a political initiative campaign in full swing. It promotes the construction of more sky cities around the world for humanity to survive the devastating effects of climate change. But there’s trouble in paradise. The face of the campaign, the world-renowned Adrien Rousseau, a former refugee, chief engineer and popular social advocate, has secretly gone missing. In response to this, Hayan security privately arrests several sky citizens in connection with his disappearance, deporting them to undisclosed locations around the earth.

Losing Rousseau will spell certain doom for the planned future sky cities, and as a consequence, city officials are keen to keep it under wraps. Sensing foul play and not knowing who to trust, Rousseau’s wife, Namita, privately reaches out to her old lover from 20 years in the past. The man she left for Rousseau who still harbors ill feelings towards her for betraying him. A man who most certainly hates Rousseau for taking away the woman he loved. His name is Azzan Yonatan-Iyad, the son of an Israeli mother and Palestinian father. He is a tortured yet intuitive missing persons detective, otherwise known as a reklaimer. He works for high-profile individuals to find their missing family and friends, privately using his earnings to fund investigations into missing protestors from his old life. His secret weapon is Synesthesia - a neurological condition that allows Azzan to associate color with sound. This is further enhanced by subtle tech implants, allowing him to act as a human lie detector, anticipating people’s intentions.

After an emotionally-charged encounter, Namita manages to convince Azzan to take on the job of traveling the dystopian world of 2248. He is to seek out the deported citizens, get their accounts of Rousseau in an effort to locate him. During the course of his journey, Azzan battles both corrupt forces attempting to thwart him as well as his own personal demons. His love for Namita persists in spite of her betrayal. We explore Azzan’s past, meeting Namita and joining her traveling protest group to take up the plight of refugees. During the course of their mission, he tragically loses loved ones, turning him from a once bright-eyed idealist to the cynical realist he is today.

However, a catharsis begins. Along his journey to seek out Rousseau, Azzan’s view of the famous figure begins to change. The accounts of criminals he tracks down tell a truly different story, hinting at a massive conspiracy. Azzan realizes that he must find a way onto the world’s first floating city, uncover the secret behind Rousseau’s disappearance and stop a major catastrophe from dooming thousands of refugees living on Sky City Haya.
