SCISSOR MOUTH

SCISSOR MOUTH
By Deborah Richards

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

Disfigured by her beauty-obsessed mother and locked in a basement, a teenage girl escapes with a pair of scissors, leaving a trail of deadly “makeovers” across 1980s rural Texas, until she finds unexpected love with a blind boy who sees her beauty from within.

SYNOPSIS:

Scissor Mouth is a twisted, female-driven horror set in rural Texas during the mid-1980s and loosley based on a 5,000 year old Japanese folktale.

Fourteen-year-old Elizabeth Horn has spent most of her life locked in a basement by her domineering mother, Angela, a small-town hairdresser with a criminal past and a pathological obsession with beauty. After a childhood mutilation left Elizabeth’s face hideously scarred and her mind developmentally stunted, she grows up in isolation, clinging to worn-out romance tapes and warped fantasies of love and freedom.

When Angela dies in a freak household accident, Elizabeth emerges from the shadows and begins playing dress-up in the upstairs salon. But when a local beauty queen arrives for her perm appointment, Elizabeth’s make-believe spirals into a blood-soaked game of identity, obsession, and accidental murder. As the bodies pile up and a bumbling deputy closes in, Elizabeth flees to a nearby pig farm, where she finds unexpected refuge, and romance, with Charlie, the blind farmer’s son who cannot see her disfigurement but sees her soul.

Scissor Mouth is Carrie meets Beetlejuice with a splash of Misery—a blood-splattered fairy tale about beauty, repression, and the violent cost of becoming who you were never allowed to be.
