SYNOPSIS:
Joan, a talented art student, survives a life-threatening car accident and is reluctantly taken to a secluded house by her overprotective, military father, Philip, until she fully recoveries from her injuries. Once there, strange occurrences unfold in the old property. Joan unknowingly paints a picture of a young boy standing in her bedroom window in the day, then at night she experiences a disturbing recurring nightmare of self-harm, and is haunted by a particular song which keeps playing on an old radio at the exact same time every night. Joan suspects supernatural forces are at work, but Philip dismisses her claims, attributing them to her head injury. The arrival of Darren, a friendly wildlife photographer, prompts Joan to uncover the truth. Secretly using Darren's phone, she contacts her boyfriend Billy and discovers that her supposed accident was unknown to anyone; instead, people believe she just suddenly quit university without explanation and moved away. Joan realizes her father has been deceiving her. Further investigation reveals Darren's true identity and his collaboration with Philip to keep her at the house indefinitely. Determined to escape, Joan stops taking her supposed prescribed medication and tries to flee in the middle of the night, but is pursued back inside by two hideously burnt figures. Overwhelmed by fear, she reaches a state of catatonia, prompting Darren to release her from the hypnosis he had placed upon her days earlier. Joan's repressed memories resurface. She recalls the accident and the tragic deaths of the married couple she collided with. She vividly remembers the song playing on the car stereo, and the boy in the backseat, begging for her help before their car exploded. Overwhelmed by guilt, Joan also recollects her suicide attempt and how Philip saved her, bringing her to Darren, a psychiatrist who used a controversial method involving hypnosis and medication to suppress her traumatic memories. She refuses further treatment, feeling undeserving of forgetting and being free of her crippling guilt. Joan believes she only deserves death. Philip, however, orders Darren to administer the treatment against her will again, suppressing her memories once more...for now. "Wealdmount House" is a chilling psychological horror, boasting a twist ending to rival the genre's finest. The narrative delves into the complex, strained relationship between a father and his daughter, exploring the lengths he's willing to go to protect her, even against her wishes.
