A kind, intelligent, and outcast Velociraptor with dreams of travelling to the
stars, teams with a stranded NASA astronaut to rebuild her ship, avoid getting eaten,
launch off Cretaceous Earth, and save the dinosaurs from an impending asteroid.
SYNOPSIS:
COMPS: THE LAND BEFORE TIME meets INTERSTELLAR
WHY: The fusion of the two most beloved concepts in childhood— dinosaurs and astronauts —is instantly iconic. The juxtaposition of prehistoric Earth and future space travel is utterly cinematic. The hook— “A dinosaur becomes an astronaut”—is ridiculously fun, but beneath the spectacle are deeper thematic pulses: a meditation on climate collapse, and humanity’s tragic pattern of self-destruction. And a reminder that different is powerful… and dreams, no matter how impossible, are worth chasing.
Warning: Don’t let the subject matter fool you. This isn't a kiddie cartoon… It's got BITE.
CRACK KAPLOOWWW!
The sky splits open above Cretaceous Earth. A space shuttle tears through the clouds, crashing in a blaze! Amid the chaos, a velociraptor nest is struck by debris. Only two eggs survive, one of which hatches too early. The hatchling is born without the signature sickle-shaped claws we all associate with raptors— Meet ALON.
He’s gentle, inquisitive, and kind—everything a raptor shouldn’t be. His childhood is a struggle to fit in. His faint interest in building, and science is seen as an affront. His brother RIP-CLAW bullies him, their FATHER rejects him, and as he grows into adulthood, only his MOTHER sees potential in his differences.
Then–disaster. A T-Rex attack results in the deaths of Alon’s entire family. Fleeing for his life, Alon finds refuge in a cave surrounded by the long-ago crashed spaceship that (unknown to him) caused his deformity. It’s here that he discovers the deceased NASA pilot, JUMPER JOHANSSEN.
Lightning reactivates the astronaut’s old video logs. Alon, mesmerized by Jumper’s optimism and brilliance, begins to mimic him—studying his journals, experimenting with flight, dreaming of a place out there in the stars where he might finally belong. He makes Jumper’s cave his home, honoring the human as his mentor.
It is also here that a ticking clock starts as Alon first becomes aware of the famous, and inevitable Chicxulub asteroid.
Years later, Rip-Claw is revealed to have lived, now the battle-scarred leader of the pack! When he discovers his brother is still alive, they have a tense reunion where Alon is warned to put an end to all of his.. un-raptor-like nonsense.. or face the wrath of the pack.
The 2nd act begins as another spaceship crashes in search of the last! This one contains BOWIE JOHANSSEN, Jumper’s daughter, in search of her lost father. Upon meeting, Alon saves Bowie from a Spinosaurus attack. And after getting her bearings in a hostile new world, she slowly begins to understand that Alon is different.
A friendship forms, especially after fixing a neural-link headset that allows them to understand each other. They strike an agreement: Rebuild the ship together, and maybe both of them get what they want.
Alon trains as an astronaut, guided by Bowie, as well as Jumper’s archived lessons. Together they battle unforgiving landscapes, science dilemmas, and hostile predators in an effort to rebuild for launch. And to make matters worse, the technology powering the ship is stolen by a mysterious, armored, HUMANOID FIGURE with a hidden connection to everything.
To defeat the thief, reconcile with his brother, save the planet, and become a true astronaut, Alon will have to discover that the things that make him different—his brains, his quirks, his kind heart, and his unwillingness to be just another raptor—are exactly what make him strong.
In a thunderous finale our heroes fight tooth and nail, finally launching the rebuilt ship! And in a final act of sacrifice, Alon ejects Bowie and uses the ship’s last dimensional jump to redirect the asteroid, disappearing into the void of space… and truly becoming… A DINOSAUR ASTRONAUT.
Years later we see that Bowie’s people–the last of humanity–have established a peaceful settlement in the Cretaceous. Living harmoniously with the dinosaurs. The story ends with Alon’s ship mysteriously returning through a portal, suggesting his story continues.
Science and nature, courage and curiosity, dinosaurs and astronauts—all wrapped up in a visually stunning adventure with a surprisingly hard edge, and jaw-dropping action.
VISUAL STYLE: Lush, kinetic, ancient and futuristic—nature and technology colliding. The film in my head draws inspiration from The Wild Robot, and Spider-Verse’s stylized energy. Imagine the Cretaceous rendered with painterly skies, bioluminescent plant life, and retro-futuristic space tech.
PERSONAL CONNECTION: I shifted into animation writing, and years in, still quietly wrestled with the fear of sharing the work professionally. Finishing this script shifted that–its creation literally launched the confidence I needed to bring animated projects to market for the first time, and make a real run at this… no matter how impossible.
Characters:
· Alon- A clever, clawless Velociraptor without a mean bone in his body. The odd one out in a pack built on brutality and violence, he’s resourceful, imaginative, and determined to become an astronaut.
· Bowie- A tough, grounded NASA pilot with the disappearance of her parents weighing on her. She must learn to live with nature, and get back to help her people.
· Rip-Claw- Alon’s brother, a proud, battle-scarred raptor who views Alon’s ways as an affront to all raptor-kind. He believes that without "Prime Claws," one cannot be a true raptor—until Alon challenges everything he knows.
Themes:
· Embracing differences
· Never letting anyone tell you, your dreams are impossible.
· Courage in the face of adversity, and even, extinction
