When a woman with adjustable scruples acquires a wannabe serial killer roommate, she eagerly dives into hiding the bodies until she learns that his mother is cutting off paying his rent.
SYNOPSIS:
A man peeing in an alley is killed with an axe blow to the head. Elaine explains why hiding bodies is so fulfilling but realizes she has gotten ahead of herself. The "inciting incident" is the arrest of her burglar roommate Kyle. Her neighbor Franks snitched on Kyle to arrange another roommate for Elaine. Dmitri fits the criteria except he doesn't have a respectable day job. Elaine's best friend, Lois, tries again to interest her in a romantic relationship.
Dmitri reveals to Elaine that he has killed someone. She is appalled that he left the body in situ in an alley. She insists on disposing of his future victims. She has an idea on how to take care of the whole process without making a mess. They venture throughout the Capital Region of New York State finding drunks in sports bars as targets. Dmitri wants to rid his area of men who yell at refs on the television as if the refs can hear them.
Franks becomes friends with Elaine's stepfather Davis and Dmitri's mother Simka. Simka is a lonely widow trying to help her son become more independent. While all three could be observing what Dmitri and Elaine are up to, instead they become a polyamorous set. Elaine's mother Ruth leans on Elaine as she feels abandoned by Davis.
Elaine didn't get it right the first time she hid a body. It shows up at the top of Cohoes Falls on the Mohawk River. Meanwhile, there are reports of abandoned vehicles that show no signs of foul play. Elaine is satisfied that they won't be caught.
Dmitri becomes upset when Davis behaves poorly at a sports bar. Elaine redirects him to find another victim.
Kyle returns to the townhouse while Elaine is out. Dmitri invites him in. Kyle has a knapsack filled with jewelry. Dmitri offers to relieve kyle of his sexual energy pent up from being in jail. Elaine returns and hears them in Dmitri's bedroom. The next morning, Kyle is dead. Elaine is upset that she must get rid of the body. She and Dmitri move Kyle's body while Franks, Davis, and Simka are making noise in the bedroom above. Dmitri becomes upset that his mother is engaging in this behavior. He asks Elaine to visit her.
Dmitri confronts Franks and Davis about their relationship with his mother. He gets drunk. Elaine takes him to her car. She drugs him. She goes to the place on the river where she disposes of bodies. She weights Dmitri down and shoves him into the river.
Police show up at Simka's house. They find her body and suicide note from Dmitri. Elaine is in a psychiatric ward. She meets with her counselor, Lois. Lois asks her how many people she killed in addition to Kyle, Simka, and Dmitri.
