THE BIG LIE

THE BIG LIE
By Joseph Murkijanian

GENRE: Period Piece
LOGLINE:

In revolutionary Russia, a loyal communist propagandist discovers that the utopia she helped build is a monstrous illusion. When she joins a hunted resistance fighter to expose Stalin’s “Big Lie,” she must risk her life—and her very existence in history—to make the world hear the truth.

SYNOPSIS:

The Big Lie

In the ashes of the Russian Revolution, Vera Antonova, a devoted communist and skilled propagandist, believes she’s helping build a workers’ paradise. Her fiery speeches make her the face of Lenin’s promise—but behind the banners and slogans, she begins to glimpse the machinery of fear that sustains the new empire.

When a famine devastates Ukraine, Vera’s conviction falters as she’s ordered to suppress the truth. Her path crosses Marko Hrytsenko, a captured resistance fighter who refuses to bow to the Party’s lies. Drawn to his courage, she risks everything to help him escape, uncovering Stalin’s shadow network of secret prisons and falsified history.

Haunted by guilt and hunted by the secret police, Vera infiltrates the state broadcast tower to air a forbidden truth that could expose the regime’s deception. But Stalin himself intervenes, summoning her to Lenin’s sealed office—the birthplace of the revolution—to reveal his philosophy of control: that truth is irrelevant, power is eternal, and lies are the glue that hold nations together.

Refusing to submit, Vera and Marko ignite a final act of rebellion, broadcasting a message of truth across the airwaves as soldiers storm the tower. Marko sacrifices himself to protect the transmission, while Vera faces her fate—knowing that though history may erase her name, the lie has been exposed.

The Big Lie is a sweeping, character-driven political thriller about faith, betrayal, and the cost of truth. It captures the birth of modern propaganda through the eyes of one woman who dared to believe—and then dared to defy.
