A desperate husband attempts to take his medicine-dependent wife to rehab but his plans are interrupted when a mysterious man kidnaps and tortures the couple as penance for his own daughter’s death. 

SYNOPSIS:

Following a nightmare, CALLIE is not pleased to be awoken by her husband, JAMIE, even if he’s going to make breakfast. Jamie reveals that he organized a surprise trip for Callie, keeping the location a secret even as they make their way upstate where the couple passes a strange TALL MAN on the side of the road with his broken-down truck.

During a snack break at a gas station, Callie declines Jamie’s offer of food and opts to take some pills to calm down following another nightmare, despite Jamie’s worried looks. Their next stop is at a scenic lookout during a sunset where they share a peaceful and loving moment. Little do they know; the Tall Man is following them.

On the way back down the mountain, the couple encounters a rainstorm and a nearly empty gas tank. Worried, Callie turns to her pills and in his anger, Jamie throws the bottle out the window. They’re about to fight but get into a car accident that renders them unconscious until they wake up to find themselves tied to chairs in a mysterious room, face-to-face with the Tall Man, who has set a timer for an hour. Jamie assesses the situation and Callie’s injuries, suddenly remembering the Tall Man was responsible for the accident. The Tall Man tells Callie she looks like his daughter and she refuses to give him a reaction until the Tall Man produces her pills, urging her to take them. The Tall Man taunts Jamie’s lack of control in the situation and reveals to Callie that Jamie was actually taking her to a rehab facility.

Callie is triggered into remembering the pain of her mother’s slow death, a day Jamie feels he lost Callie too. Her refusal to accept his help pushes Jamie into trying harder to free himself from the ropes, injuring himself in the process. As Jamie tries to escape the room, the Tall Man returns and subdues Jamie again. The Tall Man tends to Jamie’s wounds and confesses his entire life history to Callie, from his dreams of being a baseball player to his father’s death to his daughter’s suicide. When Callie goes from sympathizing with the Tall Man to blaming him and he turns violent, she accepts that she and Jamie will not be leaving that room alive. She makes one final push to connect with the Tall Man and he shoots her dead.

Suddenly, Jamie wakes up. It was all a nightmare. He struggles to calm himself as Callie sleeps, but this Callie is extremely ill with cancer. As he begins to prepare breakfast, Callie collapses. At the hospital, Jamie gets the worst news one could hear: there’s nothing that can be done for Callie and her treatments are no longer working. In his initial grief, Jamie goes home to drink where the Tall Man once again taunts him for running out of time.

Jamie makes the decision to take Callie off life support and as he’s waiting, the Tall Man reappears, and Jamie is back in the room tied to the chair and has to relive Callie’s death. When he thinks he can end it all by shooting himself, he is suddenly back on the scenic lookout and in the car is Callie. The relief that he gets a second chance is overwhelming and they start to head home...

Only to pass the Tall Man on the highway and he begins to follow them.
