LOGLINE: The Dope Show is the story of hip-hop artist, young rapper Diamond Dash, as he deals with substance abuse, legal troubles, and a feud with a rival rap group.

SYNOPSIS:

ACT ONE SEQUENCE ONE Three Years Ago… Diamond Dash, 16 year old Black Disciple affiliate and drug dealer, walks out on his girlfriend Alex Shields as she berates him for selling drugs while she’s pregnant. Before he walks out in his angered state, he tells her she just doesn’t understand where he’s going in the world. Diamond walks down Fuller Park, Chicago in a torn up hoodie, sweatpants, and brand new Nike shoes. He’s listening to a new album by hip-hop mogul Busta Killa called Trap Squad God which has gone gold in three days. A Junkie on the street asks Diamond for some change, but Diamond shoots him down, so the Junkie asks Diamond to sell him a third of heroin ($20 worth) instead. Diamond sells the Junkie the heroin, but the Junkie pulls a knife on him. Diamond shoots the Junkie with a concealed .32 caliber handgun under his hoody, killing the Junkie. As soon as the Junkie dies, a cop car pulls up to the block Diamond is at. Diamond shoots at the car as a cop attempts to make him drop his pistol. Immediately afterwards, Diamond runs away. Diamond runs away from the cops looking for him for the Junkie’s murder. He stops in Englewood and sees that his brand new Nike shoes have blood drops on them from shooting the Junkie. He calls his best friend, Blood Out, and tells him he’s coming over to stay on the down low while the police look for him. NOTE: This sight of blood on Diamond’s Nikes references a lyric in a Busta song Diamond was listening too. In the song, Busta states he blood on his new Nikes from dealing with ‘thieving, broke junkies.’ SEQUENCE TWO Present Day… The Inciting Incident - Diamond is interviewed at a widely recognized radio station within the hip-hop community. He announces that his two mixtapes have netted him a deal with a record company (which is worth $6 million). When asked who is biggest inspiration is, Diamond says Busta Killa is. As Diamond’s interview goes on the airways, it attracts the attention of Busta Killa. He calls up his manager and tells him to set a meeting up with Diamond. Busta Killa and Choppa Rocka have Diamond, Capone, and Blood Out sit in a lounge while they record Choppa Rocka at The Dope Factory. Busta is shown to be a lean (promethazine/codeine mixed with Sprite) addict who smokes lots of weed. He falls asleep while Choppa is recording music and spills weed crumbs all over himself. Diamond and his friends, aspiring rappers Yung Capone, and Blood Out, flirt with various groupies that come through the lounge of The Dope Factory. Yung Capone and Blood Out argue with each other over the girls, trying to one up each other. Busta has Diamond come into his conference room where he offers his company, Trap House Squad, to partner with Diamond’s company, Dope Gang Ent. for $2 million. Diamond questions Busta’s legitimacy and says he’s unsure about the deal. Busta hints at the rumor that Trap House Squad runs drugs. A voiceover of Busta talking with Diamond while Trap House Squad Members stack money and drugs in a Trap House confirms this. Diamond, Capone, and Blood Out follow Busta and Choppa to a strip club. They clear out the venue and have private sessions for themselves, upsetting patrons. An angry patron tries to stay, but Busta and Choppa’s bodyguards beat the man out of the club. While a stripper gives Diamond a private dance in the VIP room, a certain position she does (bent over) reminds him of… SEQUENCE THREE Two Years Ago… Diamond thinks back to the time Lil Bernese dropped money and bent over to pick it up at his Grandma’s apartment. She shows him a music video of rival rapper Lil Chris dissing Dope Gang. NOTE: It is revealed in this scene that Diamond has picked up some recognition as a rapper and is becoming a local celebrity although he still lives with his Grandma. To his credit, he supports her by paying for the apartment. At the insistence of Diamond, Lil Bernese joins with a Black Disciple, Yung Capone, to get rid of Lil Chris. Bernese and the Black Disciple wait outside Lil Chris’s location which he Tweeted out. NOTE: The Black Disciples are a Chicago gang which Dope Gang Ent. are affiliated with. Even though Diamond told Bernese to just wait in the car while the Black Disciple ‘takes care’ of Chris, Bernese decides to handle Chris herself. When Lil Chris walks out of the apartment, Lil Bernese runs up to him and shoots him dead. Present Day… After thinking about Lil Chris’s murder, Busta comes into the VIP room that Diamond is hiding out in with his girl. Busta suggests that they swop girls and Diamond shoots him down. Outside the VIP room, Choppa Rocka bonds with Blood Out and Yung Capone as they throw money at strippers, drink champagne, and smoke cannabis. The next morning, DJ Hoodcash interviews the Young Savages which consists of Zinc, Beat Killa, and QC. They’re rising rap stars from Atlanta, Georgia. Busta, the only person awake at the strip club (except for Capone, who throws up outside the strip club), listens to the interview while drinking champagne in a robe. When Hoodcash compares the Young Savages to Diamond Dash and his Dope Gang Ent. they take offense to it. They say that they’re more legitimate and ‘real’ than the Dope Gang members and that they come from two different ‘families’ (hinting at the ongoing rivalries between the Black and Gangster Disciples). Hoodcash presses the Young Savages with related questions and they beat him on air in the studio. Four Years Ago… QC, with several Gangster Disciples, break into a stash house (a house holding drugs) and steal whatever they can. When a drug dealer in the house tries to retaliate against QC and the Gangster Disciples, they beat him severely. QC tells the drug dealer that this stash house is on the same block as the Gangster Disciple’s Trap House and cannot operate there anymore. NOTE: This method of stealing drugs and money is what funneled the rise of the Young Savages. QC uses the money stolen and money made from stolen drugs to help out Beat Killa’s mom, pay for Beat Killa and Zinc’s legal fees, and spread the Young Savage name by sending mixtapes to various clubs. Present Day… Busta Killa takes Diamond to his Trap House as a surprise. Diamond is stunned to see that the house is the same as the one from Busta’s first music video. The place is a legitimate drug den with armed guards protecting bags of money and cocaine. Some of the Trap House Squad members prep cocaine into crack (a skill Busta is known for in his rap). This revelation convinces Diamond to sign the joint deal between Trap House Squad and Dope Gang Ent. Rejuvenated from seeing how legitimate Busta is, Diamond records some music with Busta. The song they work on reflects the new deal between them and the street lifestyles they both live. In the studio, Busta convinces Diamond to try lean which Diamond does. He immediately falls in love with the substance. Busta invites Dope Gang Ent. members to party at his mansion with important Trap House Squad members. While shooting in the woods behind the mansion, Busta suggests that Diamond get even with the Young Savages for beating the DJ. He instigates that the beat down was a subtle diss towards Dope Gang. ACT TWO SEQUENCE FOUR Zinc, QC, and Beat Killa head off to do a show after their manager, Coach Scott, advises them to cool their antics so they don’t end up in trouble. While the Young Savages drive in their limo, a black van with tinted windows pulls up next to them. Two shooters fire at the car, but no one is seriously hurt. The shooters and driver are revealed as Lil Bernese, Blood Out, and Yung Capone. After the shooting, Lil Bernese plays at a concert where her foul nature is further explored through her rap. At this point, it is established that she is as cold as or colder than the rest of Dope Gang Ent. QC calls up Busta Killa to confront him about his suspension the shootout was orchestrated by Dope Gang Ent. Busta doesn’t confirm any knowledge about the shootout and says QC gets no sympathy from him. QC asks Busta if he’ll ever release the music they recorded together back when Busta was courting the Young Savages. Busta says he has no intention to release the music anytime soon since he already has hard-drives full of unreleased music. Choppa, who listens to conversation between Busta and QC, believes that Busta’s arrogant nature is affecting their business. Both argue with each other to the point that Choppa decides to leave Trap House Squad and focus on his own company, Crack Musick Monopoly. Diamond Dash records music in Chicago, Illinois in a drugged out state. He’s taken up to drinking lean and his behavior is affecting his music. The new music he records is sub-par to the previous songs he had created. Diamond doesn’t seem to care that his music has declined in quality. Seeing that his lifestyle is too elegant (e.g. he can drive ATVs around his mansion in his nice Northbrook neighborhood), Diamond spends most of his time engaging in delinquent behaviors in full view of his neighborhood. Busta performs at a club with a large entourage. He’s drinking champagne and is becoming drunk. The place is crowded and there are over four hundred people watching Busta perform. When a fan reaches out towards Busta, he gets a sudden, quick flashback of a man pointing a gun at him. In his paranoid state, Busta breaks the bottle of champagne over the fan’s head. Busta’s lawyer George advises Busta to stay on the low if he plans on staying out of jail. Busta is not convinced and tells his lawyer he will continue to live the way he wants. SEQUENCE FIVE Diamond continues his dissent into chaos by allowing Dope Gang Ent. members to scowl at neighbors in his Northbrook mansion. At a party, Diamond’s entourage begins to notice that Diamond has a hard time controlling his consumption of drugs. Blood out tries to understand what the point of Diamond’s change is. Diamond’s response is pouring lean all over a bowl of ice cream and eating it. At their Trap House, Zinc and QC are with two groupies about to have sex with them. Beat Killa interrupts the four and makes the two girls wait in the bedroom. He shows Zinc and QC a diss song from Diamond directed at them. The song infuriates the trio and they decide to plot a move against Diamond. Alex Shields shows up at Diamond’s mansion with their Daughter, Coco. Alex suspects that Diamond is over-using drugs and becoming unstable, so she mentions something to him. This upsets Diamond and he makes Alex leave while calling her out for spending their child support on herself. In his mansion, Diamond drinks lean around Coco as she plays with new toys he bought her. His behavior does not bother him one bit, despite being around his daughter. The overconsumption of drugs has blinded his conscious. Busta invites an interviewer to his Trap House for his newest video shoot. In plain sight of the interviewer are Trap House Squad members with weapons and drugs. Busta blatantly does not care and participates in the illegal activity on camera for his video shoot. After the music video shoot, Busta does lines of cocaine in his mansion while girls from the video shoot sleep in his bed. Afterwards, he breaks a plaque commemorating him for six months in rehab that he spent fighting a cocaine addiction. The Young Savages perform at a concert in a sold out venue. QC sees a fan wearing a Dope Gang Ent. hoodie. He jumps off the stage to superman the fan in the face. Zinc and Beat Killa get QC off of the fan as he kicks him on the ground. SEQUENCE SIX Diamond drives his Lamborghini over the speed limit while drinking lean, smoking a blunt and receiving oral sex. He is pulled over by a cop and sent to rehab for driving under the influence of drugs, driving without insurance, and having a suspended license. The Dope Gang Ent. members, with the exception of Diamond who is still in rehab, attend a Hip-Hop awards show. Things get heated when they see the Young Savages at the show as well. As soon as the show is over, the Dope Gang Ent. members and Young Savages, including their entourage, get into a fight in the middle of the red carpet. Diamond, who is experiencing severe withdrawals from lean, gets a phone call from Alex who tells him that their daughter misses him. He tells her that he does not want to see Alex or talk to his daughter because he is secretly ashamed that he’s in rehab and would not want his family to see him in his current state. When Alex asks if they can visit, he denies them. NOTE: Diamond’s withdrawals will include severe headaches and vomiting. Busta falls sleeps at his Trap House in a room where a Trap House Squad Member counts up money with a money counter machine. He’s been binging hard on lean for the past couple days. Thirteen Years Ago… During a dream sequence, Busta remembers the time a deceitful girl led him to her apartment with the promise of sex. She tells him to wait in her bedroom while she goes to bathroom. In the bathroom, she texts someone that Busta is with her. As Busta waits for the girl to come out of the bathroom, four robbers break in, telling Busta to give over his chain. When Busta refuses, the gunmen start pistol whipping him. Not willing to be beaten down, Busta grabs one of the guns from the robbers and shoots one dead. The three remaining robbers run away while the deceitful girl comes out of the bathroom in shock. Busta smacks the deceitful girl out, runs out of the apartment, and down the street. Present Day… Busta wakes up from his dream to see his Trap House Squad Member trying to steal his chain from him. He proceeds to beat the Trap House Squad Member senselessly out of the Trap House. Outside, Busta prepares to shoot the Trap House Squad Member, but the police show up, demanding he drop his weapon. Fearing death, Busta drops his weapon and is arrested. Busta calls Diamond while he is rehab to let him know of his current situation. He lets him know that he is in jail and will probably be there for the next two years. Despite his situation, he tells Diamond that everything will most likely be alright and that he has plans to keep himself and his company relevant. Choppa Rocka and his Crack Musick affiliates roll up the Trap House Squad Member that Busta was going to shoot as he leaves his mother’s house. They beat the Trap House Squad Member and slash his throat, killing him. They steal the chains and valuables off his dead body. Choppa Rocka helps maintain the Trap House Squad name by managing the numerous releases of Busta’s unreleased work. Busta has hard-drives full of music that he saved to be released in case he’d ever end up back in jail. ACT THREE SEQUENCE SEVEN Diamond is out of rehab and living in a mansion in Highland City, San Bernardino County, California after being evicted from his old one and to avoid probation in Illinois. He receives news he has been dropped from his label. Diamond and his friends Blood Out, Yung Capone, and Lil Bernese are in Diamond’s mansion chilling with strippers and groupies. They binge on lean, alcohol, pills, club drugs, and cannabis. A van with four hooded Gangster Disciples wielding AK-47s, storm up to the mansion and shoot it up. Two strippers and Lil Bernese are killed in the crossfire as well as two of the hooded shooters. NOTE: Diamond and his friends escape gun possession chargers as they ditch Diamond’s guns and claim self-defense in court. Busta is confronted by several Gangster Disciples, a gang the Young Savages are affiliated with, who prepare to shank him. Busta fights them off as well as he can, but is shanked to death. A group of prisoners loyal to Busta, see Busta being shanked to death and kill the Gangster Disciples responsible for the actions. Four Years Ago… QC remembers when the Young Savages were just starting off and had nothing. In the flashback, he mixes a current song by the group in Beat Killa’s mother’s house. She has been raising the three, but has cancer and her disability checks cannot cover their bills. Beat Killa and Zinc are in a juvenile correctional facility and they have no one to help pay their legal fees. Present Day… Coach Scott gets verbally abusive towards QC as he tells him he knows what he did to Busta. He tells QC that he has gone too far and that he will not be representing the Young Savages anymore. In response, QC beats up Coach Scott. QC tells Scott as he beats him that he’s gone through ‘too much’ to let anyone stop the Young Savages. Choppa Rocka calls Diamond Dash and informs him of Busta’s death. Diamond’s first response is to drink lean to deal with the news, but instead he angrily throws the bottle of promethazine/codeine against a wall. He destroys the rest of his lean supply. Shortly afterwards, Diamond is called by Young Savage member QC who threatens to destroy Dope Gang Ent. and kill Alex and Coco. SEQUENCE EIGHT The Young Savages prepare to exit a venue in Chicago, Illinois for their national tour. Several Black Disciples pay off the security guards as dozens of Black Disciples wait for the Young Savages to come outside. Once the Young Savages step outside, the Black Disciples beat the Young Savages with brass knuckles, baseball bats, and various objects. As he succumbs to his death, QC remembers the day he sat down with Busta Killa when Busta was interested in signing them to Trap House Squad. Busta tells him he can give him everything he wants for a rap career or take it all away. Diamond sits in a limo outside the Young Savage show smoking blunts with Yung Capone and Blood out in Chicago, Illinois, making Diamond vulnerable to arrest due to violating the terms of his probation. As QC watches Zinc and Beat Killa die in front of him from the beat down as well as himself, he sees Diamond roll down the window to limo and watch Zinc die. At Busta’s funeral, Choppa Rocka gives an elegy for Busta and credits him for all of his success. Afterwards, he asks Diamond Dash if he’d like to take over Trap House Squad, but Diamond leaves the future of the company up to Choppa. After Busta’s funeral, Diamond takes his daughter to a jungle gym to play on the swing-sets. He pushes her so that she can swing and promises to give her a better life than the one he has lived.
