When three teens across the country steal credit card numbers from the rich and give money to the poor, they make fast friends with a podcaster, a travel agent, and the public, but powerful enemies with politicians, the FBI, and a hitman paid to kill them.
SYNOPSIS:
ROSITA GONZALES (15) is an intelligent but precocious Sophomore in high school in Miami who answers an ad on the dark web to become a contemporary Robin Hood. Rosita understands poverty. Her mom is in jail for a week for failing a judge’s orders to repay her debts on time. DION WHITE (15) in Rosita’s counterpart in Los Angeles. Their task is to steal credit card numbers from rich people and send them to the mastermind (FAKIN’; 13) in Washington DC who defrauds the victims and sends the money to charities. Rosita’s first theft of a female escort “Miss Beverly” at a Country Club appears to be a small-time crime. A toy arrow marked “The Robin Hoods” is the only evidence. SPECIAL AGENT RITA WILLIAMS (25; black) from a tiny FBI satellite office in Miami is assigned the case. Her office mate is a gay travel agent, BILLY CHEN (25), is swept up in the Robin Hoods story.
Rita learns that the escort’s credit card includes information from a dozen high-ranking federal politicians, judges, and millionaires. A wild video podcasted, ELLIE SOMMERS (30) reports on the Robin Hoods and makes them instantly famous. One of the victims hires TONY STILLETO (60s) to kill the Robin Hoods, and a comical cat-and-mouse chase begins. Dion captures many credit card numbers from a men’s clothing store on Hollywood Boulevard where Tony arrives to steal Ellie’s iPad. Rita is there to tackle him, but he gets away. Rosita’s next job is at the Miami Yacht Club. Ellie is there the next day to report, and Rita collects evidence as Billy sells Robin Hood hats as souvenirs. Tony arrives to shoot Rosita who isn’t there, but with his poor vision, Tony’s shots miss everyone anyway.
Rosita and Dion hold secret conversations each night on burner phones and Dion promises her a web-based prom date. But Rosita calls on sight-impaired classmate, JOHNNY (15), to pull off one last job before quitting the gang of thieves. A showdown is set in Palm Beach, the highest concentration of rich people in America. Rita captures Rosita and Johnny. Tony arrives to shoot at, but misses, everyone. But Rosita is found without her secret credit card reader and is released from police custody. Rosita returns home to find her room ransacked and her computer stolen. Rita arrives to solve the cases, but Tony also arrives to finish his job. With twists and turns at the end, we learn Fakin’ is the President’s niece who wants to help the poor and has kept the list of all the politicians involved as leverage. Dion, the spoiled son of the Mayor of Los Angeles, was skimming off the victims. Johnny steps up to be Rosita’s prom date, everyone is pardoned by the President, and Rosita’s mom is let out of jail early. The Robin Hoods are heroes.
