Elevator Pitch: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets Pulp Fiction.
This is a fast paced psychological thriller with a mysterious past surrounding the murderer. It is told with a unique Rashomon style format and a theme about the different facets of relationships.
Each act resets the day with the main characters in line at a coffee shop. They are:
Gabby Angles, the cute and geeky ginger in her late 20’s with a tendency for clumsiness that is the murder victim to be.
Jess Pendleton, a gutsy emo bike courier in her early 20’s that sports a tough yet attractive exterior.
*Samantha Erickson, a mid 30’s classically beautiful, cold and calculated detective with a knack for observation.
Imagine a busy coffee shop where sweet Gabby flirts with her crush Lucas, the barista at the coffee shop. There she expresses how nervous she is to pitch a new project to the heads of her planning division. He of course is very supportive all the while Jess impatiently waits in line.
While at work her boss Alex Cutler, an arrogant yet charming man in his early 30’s that never misses an opportunity to flash his soulless smile, yet again tries to steal credit for her project. She finally stands up for herself which comes to a head in an argument at the top of the office stairs. That’s where she slips and falls. Alex catches her at first. He hangs onto her just long enough for to realize what is about to happen next. He lets her fall. Poor Gabby tumbles to her death. That’s where he casually strolls down the stairs and grabs her smashed pink bunny thumb drive that holds all of her projects notes.
Unfortunately for him he is unable to retrieve her notes from the busted thumb drive. That is the least of his worries. After being questioned by Samantha, the investigating detective, his world falls apart. He begins to see Gabby all over the office. She mills about doing her daily routine and even visits Alex and acts as if nothing happened.
Things get worse when he turns to alcohol and drugs to cope. He is haunted by nightmares, his wife leaves him and he is arrested under suspicion of murder. After he is let go because the police have no hard evidence, he snaps. He goes back to work and confronts the haunting spirit of Gabby. There they have an argument that ends up where everything started, at the top of the staircase. This time he slips but she grabs him. How can she grab him? Is she real? He has a brief moment of clarity and lets go. He falls to his death. Gabby cradles his dying body as he mutters something under his breath “Daddy. Please don’t hurt the girls”.
Picture the coffee shop. The day resets from Jess’s point of view. She is utterly disgusted as she watches the two love birds flirting at the counter. When she exits she is pick-pocketed by Audun, a curious young girl in her preteens. After chasing her down she sees a bit of herself in this kid and befriends her.
As Jess goes about her day she makes a delivery to a very paranoid Alex that accuses her of blackmailing her. She continues about her route and later that day has to make a delivery to a dilapidated apartment in a shady part of town. There she runs into Alex again as he disappears into the apartment that she is supposed to deliver to. As she approaches she is stopped by Audun. Shocked, to see her new friend living in such filth, she also learns that the apartment is where she lives and that Valentin, a known drug dealer resides there. After Alex leaves, Jess makes her delivery but ends up in a confrontation with Valentin when she sees him abuse Audun and her pregnant mother. This results in Jess accidentally killing Valentin, but not before he beats Audun’s mother to death. What is she supposed to do with this kid from the streets? She doesn’t want to see her lost in the system like she was as a little girl.
Envision the coffee shop with an impatient Jess and a shy Gabby waiting. The day has reset with Detective Samantha Erickson first in line. She is able to figure out why Lucas is so nervous. She gives him some pointers on how to talk to a girl like Gabby.
At the precinct she specializes in cold cases. There she does some digging on a case where the witnesses were improperly interviewed. She follows up and interviews Alex about a suspicious suicide that happened months ago. He acts strangely around her and answers her questions erratically. She decides to do some digging on him and discovers that Alex was the son of a known serial killer. The killer would prey upon women and mutilate them in front of his sons. He called it bonding time. But more importantly she discovers his brother’s name, Valentin.
She visits Valentin where he ignores her until she mentions Alex. That sets him off. With assistance, he gets the jump on her and her partner. She wakes up in the basement of the house that he was raised in, the house where his father committed heinous acts. He approaches her. She tries to free herself. He grows nearer. She is so close…
