SYNOPSIS:
Two boys, spiritually connected, not mature enough to handle it. Athletic Wyoming freaks out and pummels Jackson, the overweight brainiac despite the mutual pain this causes them.
Thirty years later, Jackson is still overweight, alone, and operating as a contractor in Jackson, Wyoming. He is ambivalent about his work as he would rather work as an astrologer. Secretly, he harbors unrequited love for Wyoming. Jackson wins the bid to build his first multimillion-dollar mansion — for a mysterious and famous client.
Wyoming Worland went on from being a junior high school bully to having a career as a major movie star. He got married and had kids, but what people don’t know is that he’s gay, she’s a lesbian, and their relationship is transactional. There’s love there, but she has a wife and he’s looking for the love of his life.
Neither man is aware that the other is a part of the project. Then while Jackson works on the house with his crew, Wyoming and his family arrive, and both are caught off-guard. Wyoming can’t remember how he knows Jackson. The contractor does the “Libra thing:” pretends not to remember him when asked.
Jackson has learned to take care of himself, and uses Aikido to fend off a drunk, dumb attack. But he also uses it to tell Wyoming how they know each other, by using the epithets young Wyoming used on Jackson in the junior high school hallway against him, shaming him.
Wyoming coaxes a skittish Jackson to open up. Gradually, Jackson warms up to him. Wyoming overestimates his progress. Invites Jackson into his hotel room and asks him to remove his shirt in exchange for a robe. Jackson bolts when Wyoming touches his belly. So begins a downward spiral for Jackson.
He dives into the food. Wyoming doubles up his efforts, promises he will break through Jackson’s defenses.Jackson gets drunk. Goes to Wyoming’s hotel where he discovers a gala celebration welcoming him as a new town resident. Jackson did not know of the event … and obviously wasn’t invited.
Jackson’s self-loathing wins out, and he pushes Wyoming away. The celebrity tries to pull Jackson towards him but Jackson’s Aikido reflex pushes him into the Christmas tree.
Jackson, alone again and his career in ruins, regroups. He dates a man in town who likes big guys and begins to see himself as worthwhile. Jackson starts a new career as an astrologer, but things aren’t meant to be with the new man. At the 25th high school reunion, Jackson apologizes to Wyoming who accepts but pushes him away. Wyoming leaves, bereft.
The fates push Jackson to try once more. This time they kiss and dance together on the reunion dance floor.
