SYNOPSIS:

An unconventional drama told through the eyes of PRISCILLA VALDEZ, a young deaf woman on the autism spectrum. Priscilla works at a shoddy Laundromat in a diverse community, filled with offbeat characters. Her insensitive boss, MR. ROMAR is a closeted black man who treats Priscilla and her spitfire co-worker, ANGELA with no respect. Angela, very small in stature, but big in confidence is an eccentric dresser who makes working at the Laundromat bearable and fun. Directly across from the Laundry is Tobin’s Gym, where Priscilla’s best friend, MARIA works as an exercise dance instructor. Maria is everything Priscilla desires to be. Maria is beautiful, outgoing, and street smart. Priscilla’s love for Maria goes beyond friendship. She satisfies her "secret desire" to be Maria by daydreaming that she and Maria perform dances together. On one eventful night, (on Priscilla’s birthday) Maria and Priscilla go searching for Priscilla’s lost dog, CHATO. During their search, Maria learns of Priscilla’s desire to dance. Maria is delighted and wants to share in this ambition. She makes Priscilla promise her that the two of them will audition together for the community Fourth of July talent show. The idea of dancing together in front of everyone makes Priscilla very nervous but she reluctantly agrees. This beautiful idea, quickly comes to an end when Maria on the same night is killed in a tragic accident. Priscilla blames herself for Maria’s death. It becomes Priscilla’s mission to fulfill the promise of dancing for Maria. However, Priscilla is clumsy and uncoordinated. She can’t dance. Priscilla auditions for the talent show regardless of her difficulties. She fails miserably. The judges laugh at her dubious attempt. However, the head judge, JESSE, takes an interest in Priscilla and gives her a shot anyway. Jesse, an Artistic Director of a Professional Ballet School strives to make Priscilla’s promise a reality by introducing her to the strenuous but beautiful world of ballet. While Priscilla dreams of pursuing her promise to Maria, other members in her own vibrant family and diverse community struggle with their own life fulfillments. Unfortunately, not all dreams have fairytale endings and Priscilla’s dream may lead her toward her own fateful ending.
