Traumatized by an honor killing, a father is compelled to track fleeing killers to the Pakistan/Afghan border, where he must fight, finding his way home to his family.
SYNOPSIS:
Engineer, LARRY, Mom, MICHELLE and their daughter, BUCKIE lead regular lives. One unusual day ends even more strangely when Larry witnesses GURPREET being burnt to death. Her teenage killers (NAWAZ & JAMEEL QURESHI) flee past him. Support from friends and family, animosity from strangers, and inaction from the police lead Larry to entertain pursuing justice himself. Michelle just wants them to be a family again.
Taking a forbidden phone call at work almost takes Larry's life: he slips in a pylon to answer DETECTIVE GUERRERO, inviting him to meet. The killers have disappeared, to Pakistan. Guerrero illegally passes Larry the investigation intelligence. Larry's mind is made. He gets 6 months sabbatical, and gets Michelle to unwittingly assist him in getting an aid job in Pakistan. She finds out, hits the roof, but he wins her over.
Pakistan: new and strange. Pak police are aware of Larry. He lives at USAID headquarters and meets his close protection officer: bored, ex-special forces ALEC. Prickly at first, he's impressed when Larry shoots a viper at work in the field. Friendship develops and he agrees to help Larry. They visit the Pak police, who have secret files on Larry, and decline to help. Leaving the police station, there's unfamiliar poverty everywhere. Back home, Buckie plays up: getting a hard time at school, missing her dad. Larry needs to get home. Larry and Alec go to the Qureshi family's desert dwelling. They reconnoitre, watched by insurgent snipers. More bad news from home, then Larry's kidnapped by the same police who wouldn't help. They threaten his life, warn him off. He tells Alec, and they get drunk together. Next day, hungover, they pitch an extraction mission to the rest of the USAID protection officers, receiving derision, but a handful actually agree.
That night, the group head to the Qureshi's, distracting with small arms skirmishing, while Larry and Alec break in. Larry kills Jameel, saving Alec's life. Nawaz, beaten unconscious, is removed, as a US military drone intervenes. Explosions: missiles, oil tank, vehicles, demolish the house. The surviving protection group are rescued by SeAL helicopters to a hangar, where they must hand survivor Nawaz over to Pak police. Larry, his conscience salved by justice, is immediately renditioned to Texas. Next thing he knows, he's back, with Michelle and Buckie.
