The quest for El Dorado takes the conquistadors, known as The 13 of Glory, to a land rife with gold. Their altruistic start spirals into the subjugation of the Inca nation and the genocide of its people.
SYNOPSIS:
INCA HUAYNA CAPAC (Inca Emperor) dies of small pox brought on by the 2nd Spanish expedition, led by FRANCISCO PIZARRO. Men have joined Pizarro to escape famine and religious persecution (through the Inquisition) in Spain and for the promise of wealth. Pizarro on his 3rd expedition lands in Tumbez (present day Ecuador) in the midst of a civil war. Huyana Capac (deceased Inca Emperor) leaves his empire in the hands of his two sons, HUÁSCAR and ATAHUALPA, to govern one part of the empire each. The evil Huáscar starts to assert and solidify his power over all the Inca Empire by instigating the civil war with his much beloved brother Atahualpa. Pizarro takes advantage of the unrest and turmoil to make in roads into the Inca Empire. He ventures into South America seeking the fabled city of El Dorado to increase his fortunes and to ingratiate himself with the Spanish nobility. The loyal 13 soldiers who remain at his side in his 2nd expedition, the Trece de Gloria or 13 of Glory, are now his most accomplished Conquistadors and serve him in this most violent and final expedition to seek Glory, Gold and God. On his march to discover El Dorado, he plunders temples and tombs of their gold and silver. When the civil war finally ends, Huáscar is dead at the hands of his brother Atahualpa. Pizarro captures the victor Inca Emperor, Atahualpa, and holds him for ransom. However, in order for Pizarro to completely solidify his hold on the Inca riches, he kills Atahualpa and installs a puppet, Manco Capac, to rule as his surrogate. This act helps Pizarro govern and further subjugate the Inca. Pizarro commits genocide on an unequalled scale to feed his and the Spanish hunger for gold and conquest. Within 50 years of Pizarro's conquest, the Inca population that survived the diseases brought on by the Spanish invaders is further reduced from 13 million to 2.6 million through starvation as every able bodied man, woman and child is conscripted to work the gold and silver mines. The remaining 13 of Glory members eventually plot to revolt against Pizarro’s heavy handed behaviour toward the Inca. Greed and power has made Pizarro lose sight of his original intentions to take his men out of poverty and religious persecution. The 13 of Glory attempt to restore the lives of the Inca and theirs. Genocide, a bit of history repeating. Tagline: God, Gold, Glory...and Genocide! The screenplay has been copyrighted under the: US Copyright (PA 1-345-547) and WGA NO: 1789294
