Mary overlooks Walt’s temper and his drinking until it triggers an incident that leaves Holly with minor injuries. Mary is mad as hell, but she's also pregnant with his child. Walt insists he’ll get help, marry her and adopt Holly. While deciding what to do, Mary bribes Holly so she won’t tell on Walt when she talks to her great-grandmother on the phone. Walt finds out about the call and his punishment ends in Holly’s murder.

Mary is drugged and forced into a gruesome cover-up hatched by Walt's rich, famous father until she finally unravels the truth as she remembers it . Walt confesses to everything on the stand without implicating his father who is eventually charged while Mary escapes prosecution.
