A suicidal man gets the chance to reconnect with the only woman he's ever loved -- but it must happen on a TV reality show.
SYNOPSIS:
In Los Angeles, Adele Taylor (33) and Tad Blake (43) visit a fortune teller, Madame Kastalanis. The fortune teller's advice for Adele is that she can do better than Tad.
On a TV infotainment program called "Best Thing Ever" the anchor interviews producer Dawson Foster (45) about his show "TOGETHER AGAIN." Dawson tells her that his show reunites ex-lovers in front of millions of viewers.
Tad awkwardly proposes to Adele. She tries to change the subject but he mistakenly thinks she has agreed to marry him.
In Skidmore's Tavern in New York, bartender Carl Franklin (33) listens to two patrons joke about a politician's suicide. Their talk upsets him, as he has been contemplating suicide himself due to loneliness.
At Dawson's mansion in Los Angeles, Tad asks Dawson, whom he grew up with, if he can appear on "TOGETHER AGAIN" since participants are paid $5000. Dawson is more interested in having Adele appear instead.
Carl and Adele receive invitations to be on "TOGETHER AGAIN." Carl agrees, but Adele is skeptical. Tad urges Adele to be on the show.
Dawson informs Tad that for "Together Again" he will need to pretend that Carl is trying to take Adele away from him.
Carl arrives in Los Angeles and goes to the hotel coffee shop where he meets a friendly drifter named Benny.
Also at the same hotel, Adele is nervous about seeing Carl again so she sends Tad home. Carl and Tad share an elevator where Carl accidentally reveals to Tad that he plans to kill himself.
At the "TOGETHER AGAIN" taping, Dawson introduces Carl and Adele, then tries to goad them into kissing for the camera. Adele is hesitant until Dawson plays a recording of Carl saying that Adele was the best thing that ever happened to him. Overcome, she kisses Carl intensely.
As Adele takes off her makeup Carl tries to talk to her but is interrupted by Tad. Tad suggests they all go out for a drink after the show. Carl agrees because Adele asks him to.
In the hotel bar, Tad, Carl, and Adele chat. Dawson arrives and tells them the show went well. Carl leaves. Dawson mentions that he'd like to have all three of them on his other show, "COURT OF LOVE" to continue playing out the love triangle they seem to have going. Disgusted, Adele leaves.
Adele catches up to Carl at the hotel elevators. He introduces her to Benny, who invites them out for a night on the town.
Tad arrives at Adele's hotel room and knocks. No answer.
Benny takes Adele and Carl to magical spots all over Los Angeles, and tells them stories about his own love life. He takes them to the Magic Castle, where a magician turns an entire deck of cards into old photos of Benny and his ex-love.
Outside her hotel room, Carl and Adele kiss once more.
The next evening Adele and Tad watch "TOGETHER AGAIN." The show is edited to make Tad look like a victim and Carl like a predator. Disgusted, Adele storms out.
After watching "TOGETHER AGAIN" in his hotel room. Carl picks up a bottle of painkillers and walks out, determined to kill himself. Near the hotel entrance he sees Benny and follows him into a bathroom where Benny urges Carl to not kill himself, but to go into the coffee shop instead.
Carl enters the coffee shop and finds Adele waiting for him. A waitress tells them that Benny passed away earlier that day. Carl realizes that he's seen a ghost. Carl's phone rings -- it's Dawson asking him to be on "COURT OF LOVE." He agrees, then hangs up and urges Adele to be on the show, too. Adele agrees to be on the show only if it is broadcast live and uncut.
The "COURT OF LOVE" taping is chaos. Tad keeps objecting to everything. Dawson struggles lamely to maintain order. Adele reveals that she has deep feelings for Carl. Tad protests that Carl told him he was going to kill himself. Carl admits that it was true, but that he no longer wants to. Adele proposes to Carl on the air and he accepts.
