SYNOPSIS:
PROJECT MANHATTAN is the story Tyler, a young architectural grad from Columbia University who having few emotional ties to keep him in his native New York City, strikes out to establish a new life in Italy, the country that has always captured his imagination. He is the son of Frank, a powerful businessman who founded the most important cell tower company in the country, but who is emotionally detached from his family after the tragic death of his wife 15 years earlier. Tyler falls in love with Italy and lands his dream job: a position as junior architect in the leading architectural firm in Rome. Because of his natural talent and charismatic people skills, he quickly rises from one level to the next in the firm until he develops an international reputation. But just as he is reaching the apex of his young career, Tyler comes to find out that his father has Alzheimer’s and may not have long to live. Because of his illness, Frank has been thrown out of his own business and the tragic loss of his life’s work has led to a rapid deterioration in his condition. Tyler is shocked to learn of his father's Alzheimer's, something that his father had sought to keep hidden from everyone around him. The revelation forces him to question his life's direction and choices. He returns to NYC to visit his father, but an ashamed and embarrassed Frank repels him. Angry and hurt, Tyler returns to Rome ready to let his father handle his sickness himself. But the image of a man powerful as a rock rendered helpless as a child haunts him. Struggling with the thought of having to abandon a successful career, meaningful friendships and the love of his life, in exchange for taking care of an ill father he is unconvinced will ever love him, throws his life into a tailspin, interrupting his architectural work and daily life. Eventually, however, the very relationships and culture that had made him fall in love with Italy end up being the driving force that convinces him to return home. He chooses to return home with the hope of building the thing he had always wanted, but never had. Tyler resettles in NYC, but Frank won't make taking care of him easy. He despises Tyler’s presence and the negative effects of the disease only accentuate his already critical and mean behavior. Tyler perseveres, day after day, patiently seeking ways to connect with his father and connect him to the world around him. Every effort proves to be of no success. But finally a dark secret comes to light and it's shocking revelation paves the way for healing and restoration for both father and son.
