ANAMCARA

ANAMCARA
By Paul Pastore

GENRE: Thriller / Suspense
LOGLINE:

After piecing together memories from several of her past lives, a mentally tormented private investigator suspects the man who killed her ex-husband is her eternal soul mate.

SYNOPSIS:

Present day. Private Investigator CARA BENSON, early 30's, has difficulty coping with the tragic shooting death of her six-year old son. While Cara would like to forget, her psychiatrist, JOYCE JEFFERIES, early 40's, encourages her to embrace her past tragedies. Jefferies, a devout believer in reincarnation, suspects many of Cara's current life problems are the result of past-life experiences. Cara thinks Jefferies is crazy.

Cara and her ex-husband, DAVID DALTON, mid 30's, come from different stock. Cara is a scrappy tomboy from a working-class family. David, a successful art dealer, has roots in this quiet Connecticut town since before the Revolutionary War. Their marriage of necessity, even before the death of their son, was never destined to last.

Friday night. David tells Cara he fears for his life. Knowing his reputation as a womanizer, Cara is not surprised, but David says the man who wants to kill him, JAMES HIGGINS, late 30's, is having an affair with his current wife, DAKOTA, Cara's longtime friend. Cara agrees to keep an eye on Higgins.

Saturday night. Cara sees Higgins and Dakota making love, then tells David. The next day, David, in a drunken rage, tries to kill Higgins. Higgins, in self-defense, fatally stabs David. David's fears were correct: Higgins does kill him. Cara is outraged when the State Police Investigator, and former partner, ROMAN TIRADO, late 30's, says he doesn't have enough evidence to prove David's death was anything other than self-defense.

The only way now to get justice for David is for Cara to prove Higgins and Dakota provoked him into the fight. But when Cara comes face-to-face with an 1862 painting of a young French girl, it rekindles a memory from a distant past life. She says, "the artist finished this painting like he finished all his paintings; with the face of the model. These were the last strokes he ever made." Higgins is not only impressed by Cara, he\'s smitten. Dakota is outraged.

During her next past-life regression, Cara learns she was the model in the painting, and the artist, GILBERT MOREAU, was her eternal soul mate. While Cara cannot recognize the present-day identity of Moreau she does identify her eternal rival: Dakota.

As Cara and Higgins fall deeper in love, Dakota becomes more determined to break them up. Higgins also has a rival. Worried he may lose Cara again in this life, Higgins sets out to find and kill this rival before he himself is killed. In doing so he threatens to prolong this cycle of violence for one more lifetime. Cara's only hope for everlasting love is to find her soul mate's rival and convince him to walk away...forever.
