SYNOPSIS:

While Ed mindlessly practices his magic tricks, the Pythra strays into the middle of a battle between unknown space armadas whose only difference is found in their gray or green color. Rena, Ed’s female sidekick and eventual love interest who claims she will have nothing to do with that idiot, wants to use rocket blasters to get out of the mess. Navcom, his pet computer, calculates how many minutes of oxygen will be left, depending if the ship is struck from the front, rear, or side. Ed decides to do nothing but float on by, hoping the Pythra will be assumed to be a piece of wandering space junk, which it practically is. Eventually the battleships pass and Ed and Rena make their escape through a bazaar region of non-euclidean space. Their jaunt brings them to what seems to be a peaceful, idyllic planet, but look again beyond the peaceful harbor and you might see something else happening. Hershell welcomes the new visitor to Tonador and points out the boarding house that offers the best piece of pie in town. The place is a tropic island in space until he and other Woloson are rounded up by the Rogson in flying green trucks and later saved by the Alliance Woloson in a gray, flying moving van. Upon returning to Tonador and being told that the Rogson are on a campaign of genocide against the Woloson and depositing them all in a slave-labor camp in Atatonia, Ed yells “I’m outta’ here.” But Rena won’t answer the receiver to fuel up, and Navcon says, “I like it here.” Hershell says no one is going anywhere until the Beloneous meteor shower blows over. The wall-of-light does a mass rounding up of the Woloson with Ed in the middle. Running next to him, Hershell mentions that destroying all birth records in the town hall database will help the cause but that’s impossible since the light sweep. The only place left that stores the valued database is at the Rogson’s Suppression Center, centered in the middle of Atatonia, and nothing more than a miracle can penetrate that place. Ed finds the tattered remains of the Alliance and persuades them to mount a rescue mission. The only thing that might work over the Tenaran Desert is the centipod. After failing parts, miscommunications, and unexpected terrain, only five Alliance members survive, including Ed, and are taken prisoner. Ed meets the feared and mysterious to all, Badada, the commandant of Atatonia. During a dinner party that Ed is forced to attend, Badada, mentions that his (Ed) genome is nowhere to be found in the database. While Ed jokes he is neither fish nor fowl nor Woloson or Rogson, Badada explains the Partial Pii that marks all Woloson after birth and that there is something very peculiar about Ed. But there is something strange about Badada. He’s a horrible man, but he knows something and needs forgiveness. It’s too late for his redemption. Maybe it’s not too late for Ed to do something. Who started this war and why and when? History is fuzzy. The Ancients say there was a God who arrived by spaceship and left man in the North and man in the South. Ed has his own theory.
